Obituary for Gerard Francis Kelly

Gerard F. Kelly, 66, affectionately known as "Gerry" or "Kelzo," passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, he was the son of the late John and Alice (Bacon) Kelly. He was also predeceased by his two older brothers, John L. Kelly and Brian E. Kelly.

Gerry is survived by his two children, Eugenia M. Kelly ("Gee") and Brian Kelly; his best friend and former spouse, Michele Kelly; and two brothers. He also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces, a nephew, and an extensive family by marriage, the Coyle family.

A dedicated worker, Gerry spent 36 years with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. After retirement from the MWRA, Gerry worked for Albertsons Companies, holding various positions at his local Shaw's Market, where he cherished the opportunity to work alongside his son.

Gerard was a true family man who enjoyed any and all activities with Michele and their children. Sunday football with his beloved Patriots—a tradition he took great pride in sharing with his son—was incredibly important to him. He also found immense joy in taking long car rides and day trips to explore new places with his daughter.

An avid animal lover, Gerry's life was enriched by many pets, from his childhood dog, Nomad, to his Russian Wolfhound, Greta, and numerous cats over the years, especially Kelly and Maddie.

Gerry deeply cherished his lifelong Dorchester friends and the many memories made at The Hemmy, Tenean Beach, and The Erie Pub. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Gregory Church, 2215 Dorchester Ave., Saturday August 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM at the church.
