Obituary for Genevieve Saniuk Heinig

Genevieve Saniuk Heinig, known as Genia, of Dorchester died in her home surrounded by family on August 24th after a long battle with cancer. She was 68 years old. Genia was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, cioci, and above all mother. Born and raised in Dorchester, Genia attended St. Gregory’s parochial school and was a lifelong parishioner. After graduating from Suffolk University, Genia established a decades-long career in several management positions within MetLife. Genia’s love of music led her to the liturgical ensemble ‘From the Heart’ where she and her dear friends David and Terri Raymond together brought music and prayer to many parishes for 43 years. During that time, she also directed the Children’s Choir program at St. Gregory’s Parish. In addition to her passion for music, Genia was an avid photographer and scrapbooker finding joy in memorializing the special moments and ancestry of her family. Throughout her decade long battle with cancer, Genia fought with constant bravery and resolve, never losing faith or allowing her caring and joyful demeanor to waiver. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Genia is predeceased by her parents, John and Helen Saniuk (nee Kaminski), and her in-laws William and Francis Heinig (nee Doherty). She is survived by her husband of 37 years, William Heinig, daughters Joanie McAnulty and her husband Hale, Laura Saniuk-Heinig-Greene and her husband Michael, and Cheryl Saniuk-Heinig. She leaves her siblings Peter Saniuk and his wife Michelle, Stephen Saniuk and his wife Patricia, Chester Saniuk and his wife Janet, Theresa Houck and her husband Christopher, and brother-in-law Stephen Heinig and his wife Michelle. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law Constance Saniuk. She also leaves many godchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and lifelong friends.
