Evelyn I. Cushing of Dorchester, Massachusetts was born on March 30th, 1927 in Berlin, Germany and was 96 years old. She died peacefully on November 24th, 2023 with family by her side.

Evelyn now joins her husband Robert I. Cushing and her son Michael in heaven. She will be missed and remembered by her son Robert of Dorchester, daughter Marie and wife Sybil of Phoenix, daughter Evelyn (Thomas) and husband Cletus of Pembroke, son Paul of Somerville, son Christopher and wife Ginny of Plymouth and daughter Regina (Loschiavo) and husband Rob of Marshfield. Also survived by her grandchildren, Lori, Jonathan, Brian, Rebecca, Cassandra, Lauren, Matthew, Joseph and nine great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was born in Berlin, Germany and travelled with her parents on the St. Louis to America in 1931. She was a great student and was instrumental in teaching her mother how to speak English. She graduated from Jamaica Plain High School and secured a position as a secretary to the director of Nursing at MGH. Evelyn loved to roller skate and while doing so, she met her future husband, Robert Cushing, who was her instructor. They were married in 1950 and went on to raise a family of seven.

While raising her family, Evelyn retained a position in retail at Jordan Marsh in Boston. She loved socializing with friends and taking family vacations. Reading was a passion of hers as she was an avid speed reader. She would read the newspaper daily from cover to cover as well as any book she could get her hands on. She derived much pleasure from also playing bingo and slot machines at the casino and playing nightly scrabble games with Bob. She especially delighted in her vices; smoking, drinking wine and chocolate!

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 4th at 10:00am at Saint Gregory’s Church, 2215 Dorchester Avenue, in Lower Mills, Dorchester followed by Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery.
