Obituary for Ena Depradine

Ena Harper Depradine peacefully departed this life on September 18, 2026, at Boston Medical Center. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and matriarch whose strength, resilience, and unwavering love touched generations. Prior to her passing, Ena was a resident of Bostonian Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dorchester, where she lived from 2020 to 2026.

Born in the village of Manzanilla, Trinidad, Ena was the beloved daughter of the late Simon Harper and Alphonsine (Paulina) Celestine Harper. She was the eighth of nine children and was predeceased by her siblings: Harvey, Knolly, Wilford, Edison, Elda, Lennie, Priscilla, and Mary.

In 1947, Ena married Maurice Ignatius Depradine of St. George’s, Grenada. Together they built a family founded on love, faith, perseverance, and hard work. Their union was blessed with ten children: Primrose, Patricia, George, Roland, David, Steve, Gail, Russell, Kennedy, and Alice. Through them, her legacy continued to grow, including twenty-one grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren whose lives were enriched by her wisdom, kindness, and steadfast devotion.

In 1973, Ena immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts, with her four youngest children in pursuit of greater opportunities. She first settled in Roxbury before making her home in the Villa Victoria neighborhood of Boston’s South End, where she lived on San Juan Street for more than two decades. Ena worked as a dietary aide at Boston University Medical Center and was admired for her tireless work ethic, warm spirit, and infectious sense of humor.

After becoming a proud American citizen in the early 1980s, Ena achieved another lifelong dream in 1990 when she purchased a home in Beachmont, Revere. This accomplishment reflected the determination and perseverance that defined her life and inspired those around her.

Ena found great joy in tending her garden, transforming rocky soil into a beautiful oasis filled with vibrant carnations, zinnias, and hostas. She treasured long walks along Revere Beach, especially during the warm summer months, and delighted in life's simple pleasures, from sharing meals with loved ones to enjoying her favorite local treats. She loved the holidays because it was always filled with warmth, conversation, and the welcoming aroma of freshly baked breads and cakes lovingly prepared for her family.

A woman of extraordinary strength and courage, Ena overcame countless challenges in pursuit of a better life for her children and future generations. Through sacrifice, determination, and faith, she achieved the American dream and lived to witness many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren graduate from college, establish successful careers, and build lives of their own across Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Florida, and beyond.

Though small in stature, Ena possessed a spirit larger than life. She embodied tenacity, resilience, grace, and the enduring strength of her Trinidadian roots. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the values she instilled, and the countless lives she touched through her generosity, wisdom, and unconditional love.

She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and lovingly carried in the hearts of all who knew her.

"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day."
