Obituary for Elaine A. Kelley

Elaine A. Kelley, of Milton, passed peacefully on August 10, 2024, in Milton, with her family by her side. Born in Medford, Massachusetts, Elaine spent 15 years as a nurse in both clinical and academic settings, culminating in her years as a Milton Academy school nurse. This was followed by her many years as a commercial business broker in the Plymouth area during which she was instrumental in the creation of the Cranberry Area Hospice – an institution she held close to her heart – as a founding board member.

Though wearing these varying career hats, her most cherished titles were Mother, Grandie, and Auntie. A dear friend to many, Elaine leaves an extraordinary legacy in the enduring relationships she nurtured with lifelong friends from Medford, Milton, Duxbury, Plymouth and Naples, Florida.

A beloved matriarch to our family, Elaine is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Kennedy (John), and Patrice Morse (Carter), and predeceased by her daughter Jeanne Marie β€œGigi” Dolan. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Shannon, John, Alexandra, Sophia and Juliet, and predeceased by her beloved Molly-O.

We will forever miss her fantastical magic carpet rides, her warm blueberry bread, and her wonderful Grandie β€œmeet-ups” at β€œMug & Muffin.”

Visiting hours will be held at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., Milton on Wednesday, August 14, from 4:00-7:00 PM. A celebration of life will be held at the Milton Academy Apthorp Chapel, 170 Centre St., Milton on Thursday, August 15, at 11:00 AM.

Elaine was so kind and gentle with me when "Gigi" passed away. It was so clear where her daughters got their love, kindness, generosity, and wisdom. Forever grateful to have met you and for you including me! Hope Gigi, Molly, & Stephen are watching over you 🀍

Dear Kelley family and friends, it is with great pleasure that I knew Elaine at the Winter Valley community. Those who knew her, especially in Building 1 where she lived, cherished her friendship, humor and matter of fact directness. She was quick to laugh and was an independent woman of fortitude and generosity. As the Winter Valley Activities Director, I did not see Elaine very often, but she did love a party and that's when she'd appear, always with a smile and conversation. I'm thankful for knowing her. Elaine is dearly missed in our community. With sincere condolences, Liz O'Rourke-Harris.

Wishing my deepest sympathies to Elaine's family and friends. I met Elaine on a Matignon bus returning from a basketball game. In those days the basketball players sat in the seats and the cheerleaders had to stand. Elaine would have none of this and sat herself down on my lap. We have been friends ever since. When I was in college I invited Elaine to an rotc military ball. Of course she was voted Queen of the Ball. We stayed in touch over the years at reunions and birthday telephone calls. I always looked forward to hearing from her. She was a wonderful person and I will miss her dearly Neil Sullivan

Elaine, a dear and special friend during our years at Catherine Laboure School of Nursing. After graduation she was often sharing time with four of us classmates in our apartment in Dorchester. Elaine spent a week with me and my family at our camp while on CLSN vacation at Lucerne in Maine. Loved and cherish sharing our path together. Blessings to her family. Sheila Clark Cyr

I am so grateful to have known Elaine during my time as Pastor at First Congregational in Milton. Elaine was always so generous with her kind and supportive words. I was so glad to get to see her in Maine recently when she surprised me by attending a service at First Parish. My prayers are with you all as you remember this extraordinary woman, celebrate her life, and grieve this loss.
