Obituary for Eileen C. Walsh

Walsh (Maloney), Eileen C., age 91, forever from Neponset (Dorchester), also Lake Worth, Florida and more recently Weymouth.

Eileen’s biggest accomplishment in life was bringing 9 healthy children into the world. We believe she had her own assigned room at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Dorchester.

She graduated from Cathedral High School then went to work at the telephone company as an operator. This is where she originally met her future husband of 61 years. They started dating when they would go to Burke’s Beach in Green Harbor. This would become a second home for the Walsh clan as well as other family members and many friends for many generations, 17 West St. for 50+ years.

Eileen worked for many years at “Air New England,” which she enjoyed immensely because it allowed her and Dad to travel, often both domestically and internationally.

Eileen was extremely proud of her Neponset roots and referred to Neponset as “God’s Country.” She was so proud that Neponset Circle was actually Maloney Circle, named after her brother Johnny Maloney, killed in the line of duty on April 16, 1945, off Okinawa. A stone with a plaque stands at Maloney Circle.

Beloved wife of 61 years of the late William H. Walsh of Dorchester, Eileen is survived by her 9 loving children:

William Jr. and his wife Sandy of Weymouth, Helen Dunn and her husband Brian of Plymouth, Eileen Walsh of California, Mary Ann Mattes of Abington, Paul and his wife Linda of Pembroke, Shawn of Dorchester, Colleen McNeill and her husband Jack of Plymouth, Thomas of Worcester, and Kelly Hally and her husband Joseph. Eileen is also survived by her amazing 21 grandchildren and currently 17 great-grandchildren.

Eileen is also survived by her sister Janet Shaughnessy of Neponset.

She is predeceased by her siblings: Dennis Maloney of Neponset, Helen Anderson of Neponset, Bernadette Broderick of Quincy, James Maloney of Neponset, Vincent Maloney of West Roxbury, John Maloney of Neponset and Mary Finnerty of West Roxbury. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Saint Jude in memory of Eileen. 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
