Edward Beal, affectionately known as “Smokey,” was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 8, 1967. He was the son of the late Garthenia Elizabeth (Little) Beal and Leavy Iber Beal, Sr. Smokey was the cherished youngest of six children: the late Andrew Amos, the late Leavy Iber Beal, Jr., Ronald “Baba” Beal, Dr. LaVerne Beal Miller, and Malcolm Beal. He grew up surrounded by warmth and love in Boston’s historic Roxbury neighborhood. He found joy in his community and took pride in attending Boston’s Public Schools. Smokey graduated from Charlestown High School.

After graduating from high school, Smokey’s work ethic shone through as he held several jobs, always bringing a cheerful spirit—whether as a crew member at Burger King, Au Bon Pain, McDonalds, handling aircraft cargo at Logan Airport, or working at a Styrofoam warehouse and paint company. In 2000, with pride and a sense of accomplishment, Smokey landed his career job at Jordan’s Furniture as a warehouse technician; soon after, he brought his signature commitment to the Amazon warehouse team as a seasonal employee, and after being asked, Smokey stayed on as a part-time team member. Smokey’s laughter, love of good old-fashioned music, appreciation for meaningful graphic T-shirts, and enjoyment of good food and family meals brought him and those around him joy. Smokey was also an avid Facebook Reporter and the community’s Paparazzi. He enjoyed posting pictures and memorabilia on Throwback Thursdays and his Sunday morning trips to Dunkin' Donuts. Most of all, Smokey’s love for family was steadfast and unwavering—his family was always at the center of his heart. During a tender moment at Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Brighton, surrounded by family and a few close friends, Smokey expressed his deep love for God and openly professed his acceptance of Jesus as his savior.

Edward “Smokey” Beal fought hard but departed this life on June 18th, 2026, leaving cherished memories for those who loved him. He is survived by his brother Ronald “Baba” Beal and Ronald's wife, Valerie Beal, of Shreveport, Louisiana; his brother Malcolm Beal of Panama City, Florida; his sister Dr. LaVerne Beal Miller and her husband, Chester Miller II, of Worcester, Massachusetts, and Dundee, Mississippi, respectively. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Virginia Allen of Massachusetts, the former spouse of his late brother, Leavy Iber Beal, Jr.; Saundra Amos Crum of North Carolina, the widow of his late brother, Andrew Amos; and his god-sister, Janice Sargent, who resides in Massachusetts. Smokey is survived by eight nieces: Pridgen (Amos) Green, daughter of Andrew Amos and Saundra Amos Crum, of North Carolina; Sonya Robinson, daughter of Ronald Beal, of Massachusetts; Ebony Collins, daughter of Ronald and Valerie Beal, of Louisiana; Kenya Beal, daughter of Leavy Iber Beal, Jr. and Virginia Allen, of Massachusetts; Shondra Beal, daughter of Leavy Iber Beal, Jr., of North Carolina; Iesha Beal and Jiana Beal, daughters of Malcolm Beal, of Florida; and Jordan-Tyler Paige Miller, daughter of Dr. LaVerne Beal Miller and Chester Miller II, of Massachusetts and Mississippi, respectively. Smokey leaves behind seven nephews: Marcus Leavy Beal and Mikael Leavy Beal, sons of Leavy Iber Beal, Jr. and Virginia Allen, of Massachusetts; Jovan Leavy Beal, son of Leavy Iber Beal, Jr., of Massachusetts; Malcolm Giovanni Beal, son of Malcolm Beal, of North Carolina; Chester Miller III and Adam Colby Miller, sons of Dr. LaVerne Beal Miller and Chester Miller II, of Massachusetts and Florida, respectively; and Ronald “Hud” Beal, Jr., son of Ronald and Valerie Beal, of Louisiana. Smokey has one goddaughter, Aryonn Beal, who resides in Massachusetts. Numerous grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, extended kin, and friends also mourn him.

Visitation will be held at the Concord Baptist Church, 180 Blue Hill Avenue, MILTON on Saturday, July 25th from 9:30 - 10:30AM. Funeral Service to begin at 10:30AM. Interment at Fairview Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.
