Obituary for Delvin Benjamin Dixon
Delvin Benjamin Dixon was born on July 31, 1974, at Boston City Hospital (now known as BMC), he was the beloved first son of Delvin P. Dixon of Roatan, Honduras and the late Celia D. Dixon of La Ceiba, Honduras.
Delvin was a wonderful brother to Cecilia, Willmore, Kervin, Noel & Rosa Dixon of Boston. Delvin was the former husband of Darline Dixon and from that union came 2 beautiful daughters Brittney and Delshawna Dixon. Delvin was also the loving father of Delvin Jacob “DJ” Dixon from his former longtime relationship with Jennifer McDonald. Delvin was the cool and laid-back uncle to Cheylah Smith, Anisa Ali, Aarosia, Alovelee & Atya Baker and Shavonte & Ke’Juan Dixon. Delvin departed this life unexpectedly on Thursday, April 7th and leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
Delvin was raised in Dorchester as a youth and he attended Emily A Fifield Elementary, Frank V. Thompson Middle and Hyde Park High School. Delvin earned his high school equivalency diploma on November 19,1998 at Bridge Over Trouble Waters a boston based program that helped trained disadvantaged youths in the field of computer technology and career development. It was there that Delvin held a few positions at the program being an administrative intern, dental coordinator’s assistant and lobby receptionist. Staff commended Delvin for being a hard worker, punctual and a pleasant person to work with. Delvin had a great interest in electronics and cable wiring, so he aspired to become an electrician. Delvin applied and was accepted to the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston but due to financial constraints was not able to complete the program.
Delvin’s other great passion was music, and he was widely known as “DJ Smooth” in the neighborhood. He would make great mix tapes, CDs and DJ a few parties in his days. Even later in life when Delvin moved to the city of Charlestown where he resided for over 20 years, he was well known in the neighborhood as the “nice guy who loved music”.
To all who knew Delvin, he was a friendly, kind, humble, laid back, goofy sense of humor and no drama kind of guy. He did his best to love his children and family with all that he had. The meaning of Delvin’s name is godly friend; proud friend, bright friend and fittingly so he was that to so many of us. We truly lost a good friend, but we will always keep him alive in our hearts.
