Obituary for Chukwuma Enyinnaya Azubuko

The family of Late Mr. Jonah Mazi Azubuko and Mrs. Rose Akpaha Azubuko regret to announce the sudden death of their son, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, nephew, husband, and friend. After fighting a brief illness, he passed to glory at the age of 60 on January 18th 2022.

Chukwuma Enyinnaya Azubuko was born on March 13th 1961 in Oboro, Ikwuano Local Government area of Abia State. He was the first son of Mr. J. Mazi Azubuko and Rose A. Azubuko and the 5th child, preceded by 4 sisters, Mrs. Adanma C Nwankwo, Mrs. Ego Adieze, Late Mrs. Nwanne E. Isunguzo, Mrs. Patience Odichinmma Mpamugo. He was followed by his younger siblings Mr. Ifeanyi I. Azubuko and Mrs. Ngozi Ejike. At the age of 23 after losing his own father, Chukwu, as he was popularly known, immigrated to Boston, MA. Upon his arrival he enrolled at Bunker Hill Community College where he did general studies before transferring to Northeastern University. He completed his coursework in Economics and Finance and received his Bachelors of Science in 1987. Shortly after he met his wife and mother of his two children Chinyere Okereke. In 1989 they welcomed their first child Chisom O. Azubuko. Four and half years later they welcomed a daughter by name Nnemdi O. Azubuko. Chukwu continued in pursuit of post graduate education and earned his Masters of Education from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 1995. He also studied law at La Salle University Louisiana. He continued in pursuit of MLL from a University in London, UK where he completed his coursework in Law. He was a man of many talents, as he was also recruited to be a CIA analyst for the United States government in 1993. Chukwu also spent time working in other areas including insurance and real estate.

Chukwu had a great love for motivating youth to live up to their full potential. His unwavering support and encouragement touched those he taught from the Boston Public Schools’ classrooms he substituted in, to his family and friends. He found great joy in using his skills and knowledge of law to help people with their own legal battles throughout his life. He was a strong believer in the judicial system and worked hard to make his mark and contributions.

In 2020, Chukwuma became a US citizen, but he never once stopped fighting tirelessly for the wellbeing of his own country – Nigeria. As a proud Nigerian man Chukwu served as Secretary of NAMSA and was also a member of then Imo and now Abia organizations where he paid his dues as a member. Chukwu, was a lion and fought like one and you worked very hard. You were a great traditionalist. You were a great father to your children. You always mourned with the grieving families, friends and coworkers. You contributed both physically and financially in every Nigerian, American, and other ethnic group activities. He admired Martin Luther King Jr. for his powerful speeches and leadership, he would sometimes say “he could pass as his brother.”

In his free time you could always find him reading books or articles, doing some law research and watching sports. He had a love for soccer from a young age, when he used to play. This continued as he regularly kept up to date with various soccer leagues. Surprisingly, he had a love for table tennis as well. He also enjoyed spending time with his only grandchild Jasiah C. Azubuko. He was a lover of both African and Caribbean music. You could often find him at a party right next to the dj booth making his music requests and on the dance floor as he would say “shaking my legs.” Anyone who knew Chukwuma knows he was a happy man except when it came to his fierce discussion of Nigerian and American politics. What can we say other than may God receive your soul to rest and inherit the kingdom of heaven peacefully. We know he is watching over us in heaven because he would have sued god if he was not let in.

Visiting Hour on Friday February 18th 5:30-8:00 PM in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester Lower Mills. Service at 10 AM in the Funeral Home. Interment in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.
