Obituary for Charles Singletary
Charles Singletary, better known as Charlie, was born on June 28th 1937 in Saugus, MA. Charlie was the oldest of ten children from Hyacinth Singletary. Charlie attended and graduated from Boston Trade High School in Boston, MA in 1956 with a degree in Carpentry. He was the loving and devoted husband of the love of his life, the late Naomi Delores Singletary of 57 years. Charlie spent most of his working career as a dedicated Foreman for Metalcrafters, Inc. in Wakefield, MA.
Charlie is survived by his children, Stephen D Singletary and his wife Maria Reyes of Hyde Park, MA and Andrea M Leonard and her husband John Leonard of Hyde Park, MA. Grandchildren: Sean A Leonard & his fiance Kristen Drury, Chad A Singletary, Roland Hamilton, Armando Ortiz & his wife Noemy, Monica Morais. Great Grandchildren: Ariannie (9), Mayson (7), Aaliyah (2) & one on the way. Siblings: Katherine Coleman, Joseph Singletary, William White, Michael White, Denise Jenkins & Tony Marshall. Sister-in-laws Deborah Addis & Stella Barlow. Brother-in-law Carl Nichols. Godson: Todd Stuckey. Proceeded in death: his loving wife Naomi, his mother Hyacinth, brothers Clifton Singletary & Richard Singletary, sister Carol White, in-laws Walter & Stella Nichols, sister-in-laws Marilyn Cole & Cheryl Nichols and best friend of over 60 years, David Graves. Charlie is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Family was everything to Charlie and he loved traveling to New York, Virginia and Philadelphia to visit & spend time with family. Cousins Bonnie, “Scrap”, Reggie and Jeffrey held a special place in his heart.
Charlie loved going fishing, cooking for his family & friends, playing cards and dancing. Charlie & his wife were always on the dance floor. Everyone wanted Charlie’s ribs & fried potatoes. For the last several years, Charlie hosted Friday night poker games at his house and it gave him great joy to spend time with his long time friends. One of Charlie’s passions was that he loved to give back. One of his favorite charities was the American Red Cross and he took pleasure in donating blood on a regular basis, and at one time was the largest blood donor in the state of Massachusetts. He also loved kids. Charlie would take the neighborhood kids to the drive in movies in the old station wagon, he would give out popsicles & ice cream to the neighborhood kids. He was a longtime supporter, President & board member of the Upper Roxbury North Dorchester Little League. Charlie was a father figure to many children. Charlie also loved bowling and was a long time member of the Queensmen Bowling League, as well as one of the original members & one time President of the Oasis XI Mens Club. Charlie also loved animals and was a longtime supporter of the ASPCA & the Animal Rescue League of Boston. Charlie was known for having cat treats in his pockets, just in case wherever he was if a cat was around Charlie had treats available.
Charlie loved life and lived life his way! Charlie loved his family & friends and was a fierce protector of them. Charlie was proud to be a caregiver to his wife, his mother & his in-laws. Charlie had a huge & loving heart and will be truly missed.
Funeral Service, Friday, May 17, 2024, in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, at 11 o'clock. Visiting Hour 10 - 11 am. Interment Oak Lawn Cemetery.
