Charles E. Andrews, Jr. was born on May 5, 1952, to the late Charles E. Andrews Sr. and Norma C. Andrews. He grew up in the City of Boston attending Boston Public Schools. Charles, known by family and close friends as “Skip,” was gentle yet very direct if necessary. Most of those who have met him would regard him as a kind person who had the gift of gab. He absolutely enjoyed holding conversation and sharing stories with just about anyone he met. He liked to refer to people with one-liners such as “baby girl”,” cousin,” and “mama,” to name a few. Skip was truly the extrovert of the family. At a very young age, Skip showed a love for music, drumming on any object to make a beat. His Uncle noticed his talent and purchased him a set of conga drums. Skip was so excited and soon became a self-taught percussionist, joining the S.O.U.L music group.

At sixteen years old, following his dream, Skip performed with the group at Boston’s Summer Concerts and Playhouse in the Park. Skip traveled to New York with the group to perform at the Apollo Theater. S.O.U.L Inc. played R&B music including James Brown hits. They came in second place in the Apollo competition.

Skip spent many hours in his room with his headphones on listening to his favorite performers, the Dramatics, Stylistics, and Earth Wind & Fire. He would sing at the top of his lungs, giving the family no other choice but to listen to him. He also enjoyed watching WWF wrestling and his other favorite program, Law and Order. His ultimate passion was communication. Like many in the 70’s and 80’s, he was a big fan of the C.B. radio spending many hours with his band, named “Double Trouble, cuing to speak with folks on the CB radio during the craze. He was known for calling his family and friends for conversation on the telephone or cell phone.

Skip worked as a Transporter at the Boston City Hospital (now BMC), transporting patients throughout the hospital; and then as a Trackman for the Mass Bay Transit Authority (MBTA); a job he was so very proud to hold. Unfortunately, Skip became injured while working, leading to his early retirement.

In retirement, he moved to Cape Cod and lived in Falmouth, MA for over ten years. He loved chilling at the harbor with friends. During the year 2020, he moved back to Boston to be closer to family, residing in the Seaport District, which he absolutely loved. The social scene was perfect for Skip. In a very short period, everyone in the building got to know him, referring to him as the “Mayor of the building.” He liked to pass the time while sitting in the lobby inviting conversation to all who walked by. Often you would find Skip outside, assisting employees with the parking situation, or reminding folks, “You can’t park here.” Skip enjoyed mostly being a social and friendly person to everyone he met. Occasionally, he would travel over to Dudley Station for his favorite steak & cheese sub or to have breakfast with friends. He loved and adored all his grandchildren and was so happy when spending time with them.

Charles E. Andrews, Jr. “Skip” departed this life on January 24, 2023, at the New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton, MA after a valiant battle with his health. Skip will be so deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, the late Charles E. Andrews, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother Norma C. Andrews; his brothers, Paul R. Andrews (Lana Andrews), Stephen R. Andrews (Nitanya Andrews); his beloved sister Theresa L. Andrews (Kevin Thomas); his two sons Takeyon Moon (Marilyn Tamaklo) and Christopher Bryant Andrews (Diane Andrews); nieces April and Shelby; nephews Kevin, Clay, Jamal, Joaquin; grandchildren Devonte, Caley, Samia, Zaiah and Sia. Great Nieces as well as a host of family and friends.
