Obituary for Cepoudie Pierre

Cépoudie Pierre was born in Plaisance-du-Nord, Haiti on July 15, 1927. She was the seventh child and first surviving daughter of Alteon and Virginia Pierre’s twelve children. After her years of formal schooling, she and her beloved younger sister, Sophanie, began a fabric and sewing enterprise that combined their good business sense and their discerning taste in fashion and fine fabrics with a way to support their young families. At age 20, Cépoudie became mother to daughter, Bernadette, followed in later years by two sons: Jean-Robert and Dady. As Sophanie faced an untimely death in 1973, she designated Cépoudie surrogate mother to her four children: Anne-Marie, Rita, Brunet, and Lilly.

Immigrating to the U.S. at the age of 49 meant learning a new language and adapting to a new culture, while continuing to help support family still in Haiti. A grandmother at this point, Cépoudie was also instrumental in helping to raise Bernadette’s children, while finding herself in school once again. She held a number of jobs, before ending her working life after a more than twelve-year tenure at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Cépoudie thrived in retirement, staying active in her church, doing volunteer work, learning yoga and Tai Chi, and being an ever-present source of nurturing and joy to her family which grew, in her later years, to include great-grandchildren as well as great-grandnieces and nephews.

She will be forever remembered by her immediate and extended family as a beloved matriarch, as well a woman of faith, strength, style, and substance. She was predeceased by her parents and eleven siblings. She is survived by her children: Bernadette Lochard and her husband, Adrien J. Lochard, Jean-Robert Labossiere and his wife, Rosmee Labossiere and Dady Lochard.

Her Grandchildren: Line-Andrée Marshall, Johanne Davis, Kelly Labossiere, Adrien B. Lochard, Monique Perez, Darnell Labossiere, Nakita Lochard, Alicia Lochard, Samantha Labossiere, Noah Lochard, and Soriah Lochard.
