Obituary for Byragland McNaughton

In Loving Memory of Byragland McNaughton

Byragland McNaughton, affectionately known as “Mac,” “Williams,” “Uncle,” and “Raggie,” was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, companion, and friend. Born on July 10, 1935, in Chester Castle, Hanover, Jamaica, he lived a full and meaningful 91 years before passing peacefully on August 28, 2026, at Boston Medical Center.

Byragland migrated to the United States in the 1950s and made Boston his home in the 1960s. One of his greatest joys was being able to bring his nieces to the United States and help create opportunities for them. Family meant a great deal to him, and he took pride in seeing those he loved do well.

Throughout his life, Byragland worked in many different roles, including as a chauffeur for Ms. Riley, a cab driver, and a dental equipment installer. He eventually retired from Crystal Transportation while in his 70s. He loved working with his hands and was a natural problem-solver. To those who knew him, he was simply “Mr. Fix-It,” the person you could count on to figure things out and get the job done.

But perhaps what people will remember most was his joy. Byragland was a happy and loving man who enjoyed life, family, music, dancing, and a good party. He had a special love for dancing, especially his famous foot shuffle. He was the life of the party, often the first one on the dance floor and the last one to leave. His laughter, energy, and personality could light up a room.

Byragland was preceded in death by his mother, Jane McNaughton; father, George Barrett; sister; brother; and wife, Annie May Jackson.

He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Rita Barrett-Williams; his son, Junior Barrett; 13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; and his longtime companion and better half, Diane Norris.

Though he is no longer with us, Byragland leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind laughter, love, lessons, family, and countless stories that will be shared for generations to come.

Rest peacefully, Mac. Your dance may be over, but the memories you created will never fade.

Visitation will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS on Saturday, September 5th from 1-2PM. Memorial Service to begin at 2PM. Relatives and friends invited. Private Interment.
