Obituary for Beatrice Marie Mullins
Beatrice Marie (Butler) Mullins, 96, passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2024, after a brief illness. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and great-grandmother with a big heart. Beatrice (Bea) was a bright light who led by example and was always there with a word of encouragement, comfort, and a spark of fun.
Beatrice was born in Milton MA on October 29, 1927. She was raised in Milton Lower Mills and Dorchester, MA, where she began her own family, moving to the South Shore to raise them in Hanson MA. In later years she lived in East Bridgewater and more recently with her children in East Granby CT, Newton MA. and Sherborn MA. Beatrice was the daughter of the late James F. Butler (born in Killarney, Ireland) and Mary T. (Cremen) Butler (born in Boston MA). She is survived by her four children: Maureen Matamoros (Beacon Falls, CT); Thomas Mullins (Andover, MA), Kathleen Mullins (Sherborn, MA), and Sandra Mullins (Newton, MA), their spouses Raul, Maureen, and Edward, her six grandchildren Diego, Miguel, Maggie, Mary, Colleen, and Erin, her two great-grandchildren Esti and Jaime and many nieces and nephews.
Beatrice was predeceased by her husband Thomas and siblings Mary F. (Butler) Moran, Helena,James, Thomas, and John Butler, all of Massachusetts.
Beatrice was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Gregory’s Church in Dorchester, MA. She graduated from St. Gregory High School and later from Suffolk University in Boston MA (1949), where she was class secretary, worked in the Bursar’s office and was crowned the first Miss Suffolk University. After meeting at Moseley’s on the Charles, she married Thomas J Mullins of South Boston on July 2, 1955 at St. Gregory’s.
Beatrice loved children and was a teacher most of her adult life, teaching elementary grades in Randolph, Milton, and Hanover Massachusetts. An eternal student, in her late career years she pursued masters-level certification in Psychometrics, and became an intelligence testing consultant and special education tutor in the schools.
She loved spending time with her entire family, she loved music, singing and dancing.
Her family and those she touched will miss her deeply and carry her memory with them always.
Visiting Hours will be Wednesday January 10th, 2024, 5-8 pm at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, MA 02124. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 11th, 2024 at Saint Gregory’s Catholic Church, 2215 Dorchester Avenue. Boston, MA 02124 at 10 o'clock. Interment Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree MA, next to her husband Thomas.
