Obituary for Barbara J Hillman

Barbara J. Hillman of Boston, Massachusetts was born on February 9, 1937, and passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, at the age of 87.

Barbara was born to Sadie Clements and Abraham Clements, Sr, the eighth of 13 siblings in a large, loving family. She graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School, and spent her entire life contributing to the Boston community. She was a long-time employee of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and her professionalism and commitment made an undeniable impact on the lives of so many, often as they navigated hardships.

Barbara - also known as Ma, Nana, Granny, and Auntie Barbara - was the matriarch of the family, and for her, family was everything. She always opened her home and her table to all who were looking for comfort, a few laughs, and a delicious meal. Barbara’s warmth extended beyond her home to all she encountered, including to her colleagues and clients at the Department of Transitional Assistance, where she worked for many years as an administrator.

Barbara enjoyed walking outdoors, visiting Foxwoods Casino, watching her favorite TV programs, such as Chicago Fire, the Celtics, and the Patriots, and cruising around Boston with her co-pilot, Carol. But nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her family and friends. She was always glad for a visit or a call just to check in, and enjoyed watching the little ones grow up.

Barbara believed that everybody - no matter their station or their shortcomings - was worthy of respect, kindness, and love. She will be deeply missed, and her memory will be cherished by all.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Fletcher Hillman Sr., and her son, Scott Hillman. She is
survived by her brothers, Roland Clements and Richard Clements Sr., She is survived by her children, Fletcher Hillman, Jr and wife Trayce, Carol Hillman, and Barbara L. Hillman.
