Obituary for Anne Marie Vertus
October 4, 1942—October 15, 2026
Today, our family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who has joined us to celebrate the life of
our beloved mother, Anne Marie Vertus. Your love, presence, and support bring us comfort during
this difficult time.
Anne Marie was born on October 4, 1942, in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti, the third child of Marinance
Tunis and Elaine Tunis, hardworking farmers who raised ten children. She is survived by her
siblings, Jacob Tunis and Diolene Tunis.
A loving, compassionate, and devoted mother, Anne Marie dedicated her life to her family. Known for
her warm smile, generous heart, and wisdom, she welcomed others with kindness and worked tirelessly
to provide for her children. As a retailer and farmer, she became widely known as Madame Paul
Vertus at the Croix-des-Bossales market-place in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Through hard work and
sacrifice, she strived to give her children a brighter future.
Some of her happiest moments were spent sharing meals with her children, offering advice, teaching
life lessons, and encouraging them to pursue their dreams. She firmly believed education was the
key to success and wanted her children to enjoy opportuni-ties she had never experienced. Her
greatest wish was to see them succeed and build better lives.
In June 1999, Anne Marie and her children moved to the United States to reunite with her beloved
husband, Jean Paul Vertus, who preceded her in death on March 12, 2023. Together, they built a
family whose love and legacy will endure for generations.
Anne Marie was the proud mother of eight children: Espedinor Vertus, Johnson Tunis, Olrich Vertus,
Dulkens Vertus, Wilberte Vertus, Yanick Vertus, Magline Vertus, and Simon Vertus. She was also
blessed with 25 grandchildren, and her growing family continues to carry forward the values she
instilled in them.
Anne Marie will be remembered for her unwavering love, hard work, wisdom, and devotion to her
family. Though we grieve her passing, we are forever grateful for her sacrifices, cherished
memories, and invaluable life lessons. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her love will remain
in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her.
Mom, thank you for your love, your sacrifices, and everything you taught us. You showed us the
value of education, the strength to persevere, and the courage to pursue our dreams. We will carry
your lessons and your memory in our hearts forever. Rest peacefully, Mom. Your work here is done,
but your legacy will live on through all of us. You are loved, cherished, and will never be
forgotten.
