Obituary for Anne Marie (Bourgeois) McCarthy
Anne Marie (Bourgeois) McCarthy, age 89 of Milton, MA, died peacefully on November 1, 2026.
Born Anne Marie Bourgeois, in Lynn, MA. She was the 5th child of the late Achilles and Marie (Berube) Bourgeois. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of the former St. Jean the Baptist parochial and high school. Following high school graduation, Anne Marie’s heart directed her to enter the Sisters of St. Anne, who had taught her at St. Jean the Baptist. Anne Marie completed her education with a BA from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA.
Anne Marie, now Sister Mary Louis Joseph (to friends “Louis Jo”) taught school in various areas where the Sisters of St. Anne taught: in MA and R I. Some are: St. Joseph’s, Worcester, St. Mathew and Norte Dame, Central Falls, RI, and St. Anne’s in Webster, MA. Anne Marie’s love of God urged her to be a missionary in Chile for 3 years. After many years in the Community of the SSA’s, in prayer she felt moved to leave religious life. She worked at DSS in Marlboro as a Social worker, then found the work that spoke to her heart, working with the elderly in Nursing Homes. Here her patience and loving ways helped many. When she saw someone who needed a smile, she always gave them hers.
Anne Marie eventually met and married Paul T. McCarthy, rightly called by her “my gentle giant”. They lived in Milton, MA and together worked countless hours at St. Mary of the Hills parish. They served as Eucharistic Ministers both at church and at Beth Israel Milton Hospital. Together, with Paul, the love of her life, they would also welcome newcomers into various ministries. She also enjoyed cooking and planning various activities for the ladies at St. Mary’s of the Hills Church.
Beloved wife of the late Paul T. McCarthy. Anne Marie is survived by her sister, Frances Murray of Peabody, her brother Deacon Joseph Bourgeois, SSS of Highland Heights, Ohio, her nieces Marie Murray of Charlestown, Cecile McCarthy of Gloucester, Eileen Malala of Peabody and Michelle Horgan of Hamilton, and 10 great nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Cecile Bourgeois and Reverend Louis D. Bourgeois, aunt of Paul Murray and sister in - law of the late Bryce Murray.
Anne Marie also leaves a very dear “Adopted Daughter” Lisa Jancaterino, and a soul-sister, of 60 years, Camille Brillon.
