Obituary for Alvin St. Clair Clarke

On July 3, 2026, Alvin St. Claire Clarke took his final flight to his heavenly home. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that his journey on earth was one marked by hard work, love, resilience, and devotion to his family.

Alvin was born on August 11, 1940, in Barbados to the late Violet Clarke and the late Oliver Forde. He was lovingly raised by his grandmother, the late Monty Forde Collymore, whose guidance and care helped shape the man he would become.

Alvin attended St. Thomas Boys’ School in Barbados. After completing his education, he began his career with the Barbados Water Works Department, where he worked faithfully for several years. In the late 1960s, he migrated to the United States in search of greater opportunities. Upon arriving in America, he worked alongside his uncle before beginning a long and dedicated career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Through hard work and commitment, Alvin earned the respect of many colleagues before retiring in the 1990s.

He was the brother of the late Vernon Clarke and the late Elvin Crichlow.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Wanda Meredith Clarke; his loving daughter, Cheryl Clarke; his cherished grandchildren, Shakiya Clarke, Rayshawn Clarke, Brandon Clarke, and Kyreese Clarke; and his precious great-granddaughter, Taelyn Walton.

Alvin also leaves behind his loving siblings, Cecil Forde, Clovina Goodman, Jerel Niles, and Eudean Downs of Barbados, who will forever cherish his memory.

He also leaves behind his beloved stepson, Chaka Meredith; his stepson, Andre Chandler; and his step granddaughter, Iesha Chandler.

He will be remembered by his nieces and nephews, including Rudolph Crichlow, Wayne Crichlow, Deborah Goodman, Derrick Goodman, Serina Forde, Salina Forde, and Sabrina Forde, along with a host of other cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

His dear cousins, Veetlyn Glasgow, Rev. Maureen Hughes, Pastor Conley Hughes, Veronica Forde, and Barry Forde.

His brother-in-law, Keith Meredith and Whitefield Goodman, Glen MacQuarrie, and his sisters-in-law, Donna Meredith and Donna MacQuarrie.

Alvin was a quiet yet dependable man who believed in the value of honest work, family, and perseverance. His life reflected strength, humility, and dedication. Though he has departed from this earthly life, the memories he created, the wisdom he shared, and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

Though he has taken his final flight to his new address, his legacy will continue to live on through the family he loved and the lives he touched.

Visitation will be held at the Concord Baptist Church, 180 Blue Hill Avenue, MILTON on Thursday, July 23rd from 10-11AM. Funeral Service to begin at 11AM. Interment at Forest Hills Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.
