Obituary for Alfred W. Delehanty, Jr.

Alfred W. Delehanty, Jr. of Dorchester passed away on July 22, 2026 with his family by his side. He was 69 years old.

Beloved husband of Carol Delehanty (Cummins) of Dorchester. Loving father of Gregory Delehanty and his wife Donna of Dartmouth, Barry Delehanty and his wife Katherine of Arizona, Timothy Delehanty of Dorchester and Kimberly Delehanty of Brighton. Devoted Papa of Nicolas, Kiera, Cameron and Corey Delehanty. Brother of Theresa Delehanty of South Boston. He was a dear son in law of Gerri Cummins and Brother-in-law of Ted Cummins and his wife Kathryn. Al is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends, especially Billy O’Keefe. Al’s best buddy was his “Weenie Dog” who was always by his side.

Al was born and raised in Boston. He had a lengthy career with the United States Postal Service before retiring as a supervisor. Later in life he worked at Black Falcon cruise terminal as a guest service representative, this was his favorite position, he greeted every guest with a welcoming smile and had them laughing in no time. Al was a competitive bowler on the Lucky Strike Lanes and was known as a youth soccer coach and starting up Gym Hockey at St. Ambrose Church. Al enjoyed traveling with his wife Carol when ever they could, especially cruising, their last cruise was the Panama Canal.

Most of all Al’s family was the most important aspect of his life, he loved his wife and Children with all his heart, his grandchildren were the light of his life, and he looked forward seeing and hearing about all their accomplishments. Alfred was a proud United States Air Force Veteran. He will be missed by all who have had the pleasure of having known and loved him.

Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday July 29th from 2-4Pm in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester Lower Mills.

A funeral service will follow at 4PM in the funeral home.

Interment Private.

The Delehanty family would also like to extend special thanks to the Doctors and nurses at Tufts New England Medical Center and the Beacon Hospice care in Charlestown.
