Obituary for Alberto Miranda Pires
Alberto Miranda Pires (Anibal) was born on November 18th, 1950 to the late Maria Antonia Pires and Henrique Pires in an area called Casa Cutelo in the town of Mosteiros on the island of Fogo in Cabo Verde as one of ten children.
Alberto gained his heavenly wings in the morning of February 4, 2022 surrounded by his daughters and wife after a long battle with chronic illnesses. He is no longer suffering and is at peace. Affectionately known as “Daddy” to everyone in his family and in the community because of the love, kindness and affection he showed to everyone he met . Alberto was a complex, opinionated, funny and loving man. He had a smile that could brighten a room and lift anyone out of sorrow. He was known to stand at the fence in the neighborhood while smoking and would wave to everyone who passed by. Alberto loved Coffee and desserts and was known to have it multiple times a day. He loved the sounds of Morna , especially the Violino. He spent most of his days watching Country Western Movies , the Discovery Channel and never missed his Monday night RAW Wrestling matches. Alberto Migrated to Portugal at the tender age of 18 to enlist in the Army and eventually came to the United States of America in 1981 and married Maria Miranda Pires “Agustinha” and have been married for 41 years. Previous to coming to the United States he worked for the Telecommunications company in Lisbon, Portugal. During his time in Portugal he was blessed with a daughter Sonia Pires which he raised until she was 4 years old. He then recently reunited with her in 2016 after being apart for 35 years. He was employed at the Necco Haviland Candy Company in Cambridge, MA for 18 years where he made dozens of lifelong friends. Alberto loved his Red Chevrolet Blazer so much that we never thought he would let it go. However, his absolute favorite thing and place in the world was his home in Falmouth, MA on Old Meeting House Road which he purchased in 1987 after finding one of his long lost cousins, Didi Rose who was living in Falmouth. He invited hundreds of people over the years to come visit him in the Cape. Often evenings turned into weekend BBQs filled with laughter, great food and lots of beer and Red wine. When he was well he tended to his lawn through daily rituals to ensure it remained green. He was known to tell grandois stories about the Army in the time of a Dictatorship, (One would often hear stories about… Na tempo de salazar…) growing up poor in Cabo Verde and coming of age in Portugal. He always had advice to share whether you desired to hear it or not. He cooked, sewed his childrens clothes and loved cutting his daughters hair although he wasn’t a trained professional. He was a man who gave his all to his family and of great integrity.
He leaves behind too many to name that will cherish his memory and carry on his legacy including: His wife, Maria Miranda Pires His four daughters Sonia Eloisa Miranda Pires, Representative Elizabeth “ Liz” Miranda, Cristina Miranda and Stephanie Miranda Pires. His Brother in Laws :Marcelino Miranda, Anibal Miranda, Jose Andrade and Filipe Miranda and Sister in Laws: Agusta Rodrigues Miranda, Antonia Martins Miranda, Eunice Miranda Andrade and AnabelaMontrond Miranda.
