Obituary for Winslow Roberts

Winslow Roberts 86, died Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Winslow was born in Georgetown, Guyana on June 4, 1935 to Margaret Roberts (Deceased). Winslow attended St. Stephen Methodist Congressional School in Georgetown, Guyana. After graduating, he worked at Ammo Construction Company. From there he worked for the People National Congress (PNC) Party a social-democratic and democratic socialist political party in Guyana led by Aubrey Norton in 1964. While working with for the PNC, Winslow met Ms. Margaret Ackman, a young politician at the time, who founded the Forum of Dramatic Aces, on Victor Street, Lodge. The program goal was to bring arts and culture to youngsters. Winslow became its playwright.

Winslow wrote, produced, and directed many plays in Community Centers around the Lodge and Georgetown. Winslow would also perform solo on many occasions on the Vivian Lee Talent Radio Show, announcing imaginary horse races from Durban Park Racetrack. Later, when Ms. Ackman was elected to Parliament, Winslow became her Chief of Staff. He held that position for many years.

Winslow immigrated from Georgetown Guyana to Boston, Massachusetts where he worked full time at State Street Bank and part-time at T.J. Maxx for many years. Winslow was talented and a hard worker.

Winslow was an avid lover of gardening, winemaking, reading, writing, and playing music. Each year, Winslow participated in the Boston West Indian Carnival and he represented his love for his Guyanese culture. Winslow loved to dance, and you could count on him for being on the dance floor at any party. Winslow had a warm heart and loving spirit for his siblings especially his nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Winslow is preceded by his mother Margaret Roberts and siblings, Sydney Roberts and Edward DaSilva. Winslow is survived by his siblings, Michael Norville and his sister-in-law Joan Norville, Jennifer Roberts-Marchan, Aubrey Roberts, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Winslow will be lovingly remembered for his fiery spirit and deeply missed by all that knew him.

Funeral Service Wednsday, April, 20, 2022 in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, at 11 o’clock.

Visiting Hour 10 – 11am. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
