Obituary for Willie Gene Johnson

Willie Gene Johnson, affectionately known as "Gene,” was called home on October 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family. Born on May 15, 1944. in Kennedy, Alabama, to Duffy Mae Johnson (Nalls) and Louis Johnson. Gene was the fifth oldest of ten siblings: Laura, Herbert, Grace, Irene, Henry, Wilbert ("Tee"), Austin, Patricia, and Randy.

A lifelong provider, Gene began working as a janitor in the seventh grade to support his family. He attended West Highland High School in Fayette, Alabama, where he played football. After moving to Boston in 1964 to be with his high school sweetheart, Sarah, they married and were inseparable for 59 years.

Gene's greatest joy was his family. He cherished his wife, Sarah, and took immense pride in their children, Tyna, Regina, and Angel; grandchildren, Vineesha, Chadress, and Jada; and great-grandchildren, Tyrese, McKenzie, and Halima. He played an active role in raising three generations of his family, serving as a protector and provider.

Gene worked as a shipper for over 30 years, but his most important job was caring for his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life, and he loved spending time with them, sharing stories, providing guidance, and simply being present.

In his free time, Gene enjoyed spending time at the ball fields with friends and family. He was a huge sports fan, and loved to watch baseball, basketball, and football. Gene was known for his good-nature and easy-going demeanor. In his younger years, Gene loved to dance and was called "Gene Gene, the dancing machine". He was widely respected for his dedication, reliability, strong will, and unwavering support.

Gene is, survived by his loving wife, Sarah; children, Tyna (son-in-law, Edward), Regina, and Angel; grandchildren, Vineesha (Djiby), Chadress, and Jada; great-grandchildren, Tyrese, McKenzie, and Halima; brother, Randy; sister, Grace; sisters-In-law, Flora, Dorothy, Sharon, and Vivian,; several nieces and nephews; Goddaughter, Virginia; and lifelong friends, Eddie, Arthur, Willie, and Pat.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Duffy and Louis, and siblings Laura, Herbert, Irene, Henry, Tee, Austin, and Patricia.

Willie Gene Johnson's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family will forever be cherished by all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.

Funeral Service, Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in Concord Baptist Church, 180 Blue Hill Avenue, Milton, MA at 11 o'clock. Visiting Hour 10 - 11 am. Interment St. Michael's Cemetery.
