William Braxton High was born on October 6, 1945, to Isham and Annie Mae High. William left us on January 13, 2022, in Boston, Massachusetts after 76 rotations around the sun following an extended illness. William is survived by his lovely wife, Edna Grace High, his son, Troy High, his loving grandchildren Chantea, Kassandra “KC,” Porsche, Brandon, Taylor, and Adelley, as well as nine great-grandchildren.

William was born in Zebulon, North Carolina along with nine other siblings. The Highs grew up on a farm, from which William undoubtedly learned his unique work ethic. At a young age, he joined the Wakefield Missionary Baptist Church. In 1963, William graduated from Lockhart High School in Knightdale, North Carolina.

Not long after graduating, William moved to Boston, Massachusetts to pursue a dream of becoming an electrician. While there, he serendipitous met his wife of over 50 years, Grace, at a shoe store. The two would soon be married and have two children, Michelle and Troy. William ultimately pursued a career as a driver for the Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority (MBTA) where even his passengers would become lifelong friends because of his never-ending charisma and kindness.

However, he still maintained his passion for fixing things, and is well known for his many fixer-upper activities. Often, William could be found working on his house and keeping his yard in pristine shape. Especially after his retirement, he frequently helped his two children with their home projects and was always available to a friend with assistance from his large bag of skills.

In addition to his expert handiness, William was ever the gracious host, often throwing game nights and movie nights or frying a turkey for a yearly Christmas celebration. He made sure all who entered his house had a full belly before they left, showing off his skills in the kitchen but also his love for trying out new recipes. William valued family togetherness above all else and his home was never quiet either from his long phone conversations with his family across Massachusetts and North Carolina, or from frequent family dinners with all the grandchildren. Never one for a dull moment, William told the most fantastical stories and hilarious jokes. He will be remembered forever for his lasting sense of humor, his generosity, and his seemingly infinite wisdom.

William also leaves behind his siblings Lula Hinton, Hilda Bell, Mildred Spivey, Mary Hazel Price, Clarence High, Moses High, and Ronald High, along with a large extended family and many friends. He is predeceased by his parents Isham and Annie Mae High, his eldest brother Bobbie High, his sister Marian High, and his beloved daughter, Michelle High-McKinnon.

Visiting Hour on Thursday January 27, 2022 from 10-11 AM in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester Lower Mills. A Service will take place at 11 AM in the Funeral home. Interment Private.
