Ursula K. (Uschi) Guenon, of Ashland, age 77, passed away unexpectedly Thursday April 15, 2021 in the UMass Memorial Hospital of Worcester, surrounded by her loving family.

As a caring wife, mother, Oma and dear friend, she will be deeply missed. She was born in Kaiserslautern, West Germany in 1943 to the late Johannis and Kathtarina (Wagner) Klein. She grew up in Stelzenberg, Germany and was the youngest in a family of five. Her sister, Lilli Benkel, remains along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ursula was the devoted wife of William A. (Bill) Guenon, Jr. for 47 years, caring mother of Boat Captain William A. Guenon, III and his wife, Lauren of Holliston, MA, and Lisa (Guenon) Saindon and her husband, Glen of Beverly, MA. Daughter-in-law of 108 year young, Dorothy (Welsh) Guenon. Ursula’s legacy includes three amazing grandchildren, Violet Guenon, Dylan and Deven Saindon, and her spunky cat, Snoop.

In her early years, after graduating from high school in Tripstaut, Germany, she took night courses in accounting and English. During the day, she worked at the military base exchange system in Vogelweh. Then a US company, American Mutual Services (AMS), hired her to single handedly manage and run their auto sales and loan office; first in Kaiserslautern and later transferred to their regional office in Frankfurt.

One day, her VW Beetle broke down alongside the autobahn. Bill Guenon, who was serving in the US Air Force, stopped to assist and quickly recognized she had the same license plate as on his own VW Beetle. The rest was history. They married in Germany, moved to the United States and lived on numerous bases scattered across the country, where they started their family. The final military assignment conveniently brought them back to Ramstein Air Base, Germany where she was able to live close by her family, allowing the children to create a lifelong bond with their extended German family. In the mid 80’s, they returned to the states and settled in the Washington D.C. area, where she joined a bowling league and met so many of her longtime friends. They then moved to Ashland, MA in 1992, where they’ve resided ever since.

Ursula had many passions in life; cooking, knitting, and gardening to name a few. She kept her family well fed, and made her home alive with many plants and flowers, both inside and out. Those hobbies became second in line once her grandchildren started to arrive. She then devoted her time to care for them. She was always thinking about what she could do for them to make their lives extra special. Helping them make homemade pancakes, pudding molds shaped as fish, cardboard boxes made into homes, whatever those grandchildren needed, she gave to them, and then some.

She’s had such a full, fruitful, and so meaningful life that it has left us with very fond memories of her intense compassion and sincere caring for others. She was the original soul of a person. She’s now in a better place smiling down on each of us who knew, admired and loved her.

Visiting hours in Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Wednesday, April 21, 4-7 pm. The Funeral Service will be in the funeral home Thursday, April 22, at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 1 PM.
