Obituary for Thomas Slowey

Thomas Slowey, 83, of Fuquay-Varina, NC, formerly of Halifax, MA, passed away on May 13, 2024.

He is survived by his dedicated wife of 48 years Kathie (Mullen) Slowey and their children Charlene Sullivan and her husband Brian of Apex, NC, Shawna Resendes and her husband Alex of Seekonk, MA and Tommy Slowey and his wife Andrea of Carver, MA. He was the cherished Papa of Norah, Teagan, and Sean Sullivan, Rhys Resendes and the soon to be “Baby girl Slowey”. He was also a devoted Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom was extremely proud to be the son of Irish immigrants. He had a strong admiration of all things Irish and the city of Boston. He possessed an incredibly strong work ethic and valued education. He graduated from East Boston High School (the first in his family to ever do so) and went on to get a degree in Criminal Justice from Boston State College. He proudly served in the USMC. As one of Boston’s finest, he served as a police officer for 35 years, retiring in 2005. His retirement involved getting together with his police buddies at Dunkin Donuts, working in his yard, watching countless documentaries on the history channel, as well as cheering on all of the Boston sports teams. He doted on his grandchildren and was the happiest when he was with his family. After moving to NC in 2022, he became an active member at the Cary VFW Post 7383 and he frequently enjoyed the company of his fellow members of the Tar Heel Detachment 733, Marine Corps League.

To Kathy and the Slowey children, spouses and grandchildren, My sincerest apologies for the loss of this incredible man. Tommy was the most dedicated person to his family and friends I ever knew. Our families spent many Christmas Eves together in Eastie and Summer time bar-be-cues in Halifax. He always called his friend Sal, "The Sicilian Irishman". Rest in Peace my Friend and when you see Sal Please tell him we miss him. Take care Kathy and family. Jane and Marie Cassaro

Kathy Tom Jr Charlene & Shawna I am so sorry about the loss of Tom Sr. My childhood memories of you all being with us and how much we loved spending time with you has flooded my mind. Tom was such an amazing man and I'm so glad we had the honor of knowing Tom. Please know you are all in our thoughts & prayers, and I'm hoping that my dad was there to meet him at the pearly gates.
