Obituary for Susan A. (Urquhart) Masciarelli
Susan (Urquhart) Masciarelli "Mimi"
Passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Susan was born and raised in Milton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Virginia (Ginny) and Robert Urquhart, and sister to Sandra. From a young age, she was known for her sweet, endearing nature, curly blonde hair, and loving disposition. As a child, one of her favorite pastimes was riding her bike on Gibbons Street in Milton, and cherished summers spent water skiing on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire. After graduating from Milton High School in 1974, she attended Dean Junior College, before earning her degree in Early Childhood Education from North Adams State College
After college, she and her lifelong friend, Karen Glancy, embarked on a cross-country road trip that led them to sunny Santa Barbara, California, in the summer of 1978. After a year in the California sun, Susan returned to the Boston area, where she met and fell in love with Luigi Masciarelli. They were married in 1981, and soon after settled in Weymouth, in 1983 they welcomed their first child, Nicholas.
With her degree in hand, Susan started an in-home childcare business, giving her the perfect balance of spending time with her son while also doing work she loved. In 1996, she and Louie welcomed their second child, Alanna, the “angel” Susan never knew she needed. The bond between mother and daughter grew even stronger over the past 18 months, as Alanna stood by her side throughout her battle with cancer.
Family was always Susan’s number one priority. She treasured bringing her loved ones together through the joy of food. You could always find her in the kitchen, preparing meals for family and friends to gather around and enjoy. For Susan, life was about sharing good food, laughter, and the warmth of family. Her signature smile, infectious laughter, and witty catchphrases—such as “Are you alright?” or “What is wrong with you?” or the beloved “Okie dokie”—will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Upon receiving her cancer diagnosis, Susan faced each challenge with unwavering determination and hope. Her family was the center of her world, and she fought fiercely to stay with them for as long as possible. Her strength, kindness, and sweet disposition left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Susan will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Susan is survived by her former husband and best friend Luigi, their oldest son Nicholas and his wife Danielle, her beloved grandchildren Grayson and Landon, Her daughter Alanna and her Husband James. her sister Sandra Gaynor, and many extended family members and friends.
Susan’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Eric Eisenhauer and Dr. Richard Penson of Massachusetts General Cancer Center. In lieu of flowers they ask that you donate in Susan’s honor to Massachusetts General Cancer Center to the Dr. Eisenhauer Cancer program.
