Obituary for Robert J. Plunkett, Jr.

Robert J Plunkett Jr passed away peacefully on Sunday September 29th , 2024,at his home in Milton surrounded by family.

Born November 12, 1937, in Boston he was the fourth child of Margaret and Robert Plunkett Senior.

He grew up in Watertown, went to Watertown High School and Northeastern University

His career spanned for over sixty years as a real estate title examiner at the Cambridge Registry of Deeds.

When Robert met Anne Marie Cotter at a party in Watertown in 1967, she became the love of his life. He married Anne in November 1968.

Anne and Bob built their life together in Milton and had two daughters, Elise (Plunkett) Gustafson and Meredith (Plunkett) Ellman both of California.

He prioritized family and the bulk of his weekends were spent enjoying family time. He was very close to his five siblings and frequently entertained them and their families. One of his greatest joys was being a grandfather to his four grandsons Anders Gustafson, Cullen Gustafson, Dax Ellman and Blake Ellman

The Plunkett summer home in Scituate was a favorite destination for extended family get-togethers. He was an avid music lover and guitar player. Besides ballads form the 1950s and 1960s he was very fond of traditional Irish music. In Scituate, “Buzzy” could frequently be found with guitar in hand on the porch overlooking the Minot beach, joined by other family members in song.

In addition to his wife children and grandchildren he is survived by siblings Christopher Plunkett and Rosemary (Plunkett) Kelly. He is predeceased by siblings Barry Plunkett Sr, Gregory Plunkett, and Merrill Plunkett.

He was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan.

Bob’s family would like to extend their deepest heartfelt gratitude to his care staff including Care Dimensions. Many expressed that he was well loved because of his bravery, his kindness, and his appreciation of the care he received.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 5th , 2024, at Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, St. Elizabeth’s Church in Milton at 10 o’clock.
