Obituary for Robert J. "Clem" Campbell

CAMPBELL – Robert J. β€œClem”, age 83 of Quincy formerly of Roxbury and South Boston, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

Born and raised in Roxbury to the late Peter and Mary (Sutherland) Campbell. Robert graduated from St. Patrick’s Grammar School and Boston Technical High School. Upon graduation with the blessing and signature of his mother, Robert joined the United State Marine Corps serving from 1958 – 1962.

Following his honorable discharge, Robert worked as a surveyor with Henry F. Bryant, Co. until he found his true calling. Robert was a proud firefighter for the City of Boston and loyal member of IAFF Local 718 for over 35 years. After retirement he kept up with his brothers enjoying their weekly gatherings at the Boston Fire Liars Club. Longtime member of the DAV and Quincy Elks.

Robert had many enjoyments throughout life, traveling to Prince Edward Island, and Ireland, singing Irish songs, boating, attending and even participating in his sons’ activities. Robert took pleasure in the art of a good conversation; deep discussion into politics would be his choice, but opportunity to meet and truly get to know people was true to him.

Beloved husband of Eileen B. (Maher) Campbell of Quincy. Devoted father of Robert J. Campbell, Jr and Peter J. β€œPJ” Campbell both of Quincy. Cherished son of the late Peter and Mary (Sutherland) Campbell. Adored son-in-law of the late Edward and Winifred (Mullen) Maher. Loving brother of the late Catherine Glavin and Theresa Moore. Cherished brother-in-law of Edward M. Maher of Quincy. Dear uncle of Helen and Paul Glavin of Easton. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Robert was predeceased by his first wife Marie β€œMimi” (Ryan) Campbell.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, September 23rd at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Mary Church, 115 Crescent St., QUINCY at 11:00 am. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, BOURNE at 2:00 pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 22nd at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., EAST MILTON SQUARE from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.
