Obituary for Robert Herdley Pitter

Robert Herdley Pitter passed away peacefully at his home in Randolph surrounded by his loved ones on September 29, 2023 at the age of sixty. Robert was born on September 4th, 1963, in Cocoa Walk Jamaica, to his parents Ivis Pitter and Gloria Watson. Robert was later adopted by Carmen Pitter, who he viewed as his mother based on the loving relationship they shared.

Robert was raised in Mandeville Jamaica by his late grandmother Lillian Pitter along with several of his cousins, Aunts and Uncles. Robert immigrated to the United States at the age of sixteen, where he would join the household of Ivis, Carmen, his sister Heather and brother Colin.

Robert graduated from Dorchester High School then entered the work force beginning with Sears and Roebuck. Over the years Robert was employed by Jordan Marsh, the Salvation Army and lastly Brigham and Women’s Hospital Physician’s Office from which he retired due to his illness. Robert met his lovely wife Carolyn in 1991 while working at Jordan Marsh. On October 23, 1993 Robert and Carolyn were married and enjoyed a marriage of thirty years. Their union produced two children Devon Robert Pitter and Kymani Winston Pitter.

Robert’s life was plagued with two life threatening illnesses, Idiopathic Pulmonary Hypertension and Rectal Cancer. The real culprit however would be Pulmonary Hypertension which would impact not only himself but the life of his two children as it was a genetic condition. When you met Robert, you would never know the magnitude of what he was coping with throughout his life. He was a quiet man, a kind man, a grateful man but a man of strong opinions and integrity. A man half of us should aspire to be.

Robert was preceded in death by his father Ivis Pitter, adopted Mother Carmen Pitter, brother Collin Bins and his son Kymani Winston Pitter. Surviving to honor his legacy are his wife Carolyn, son Devon Robert Pitter, Sisters Jennifer Gardener, Heather Brathwaite and brother Richard Pitter. He also leaves to mourn his nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and relatives all whom he loved dearly.

Robert made a lasting impression on many. One way he demonstrated his love was through his exceptional cooking, which was enjoyed by many and will truly be missed. He was a man of faith, kindness, forgiveness and gratitude. His faith was exemplified during his last days when he would testify and give strength through his fervent prayer and comforting words to all who visited him. His memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. Robert will be greatly missed.
