Obituary for Robert Daniel Gould

Robert Daniel Gould, of Milton, passed away after a short illness on August 11, 2021. He was 73 years old.

For everybody who knew Bob, he touched them with his wisdom and their hearts with his love; be it family, friend, or stranger. With his humor and compassion, Bob had a way of illuminating the darkness during people’s most trying times.

The love of his life for over four decades, Nancy Klehm Gould, was his rock, trusted confidant, and safe harbor. In his daughters Susan and Rose, he instilled resilience and crucial life lessons in a storybook way. Bob was the firstborn of Robert E. Gould and Jane L. (Hall) Gould. He shared countless adventures and antics with his loving siblings Patty, Micky, Janie, Susan, Danny, Irene, and Gillian and their significant others. In his nieces and nephews Renee, Lenny, Michelle, Amber, Matt, Sarah, Karen, and Juliana, he invoked a love of nature, literature, fantasies & philosophy.

As a former Green Beret in the United States Army, he lived his life by the Special Forces motto “To Liberate the Oppressed,” whether at home or abroad.

In all good stories, there are two endings yours and the author’s, the legacy of Bob will live in all the hearts he touched from neighborhood children, work colleagues, family, friends, and strangers. His story is a Best Seller!

In the future, whenever you need your heart touched by his presence, put your feet in the ocean waters he loved so well, and he will come to you in a wave.

A Prayer Service will be held at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Monday, August 16 at 6:00 PM. Family and friends invited. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 4-6 PM. An intimate family Celebration of Life will occur at Nubble Light House.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Bob and his love for nature by donating to the Friends of Nubble, 186 York Street, York, ME 03909. Please make the check payable to: Town of York Sohier Park or visit http://nubblelight.org/donate/ or to the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge in Wells, Maine.
