Obituary for Rita Mae (Galligani) Agnes

Rita Mae Agnes of Milton, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2022 in Milton surrounded by her family.

Rita was the beloved wife of the late Peter W. Agnes, Sr., Lieutenant-Colonel, Massachusetts State Police, and four loving children: Honorable Peter W. Agnes, Jr. and his wife Eileen of Wayland, Pamela McMahon and her husband Larry of Reading, Judith Pare and her late husband Skot of New Hampshire and Lisa Radley and her husband Joe of Milton. Rita also was the beloved grandmother of Peter Agnes III and his wife Dr. Dana of Weston, Marita Gove and her husband Michael of Vancouver, Larry McMahon Jr. and his wife Amanda of Colorado, Krista Wright and her husband Michael of Wilmington, Christine Medeiros and her husband Christopher of New Hampshire, Lisa Stokes and her husband Kristofer of Wilmington, Jack Radley of Brooklyn, Jillian Radley of Chicago, and two step-grandchildren, Jamie Vetter and her husband Christopher of Connecticut and Lindsay Tiberi and her husband Dr. John III of California. Rita also was the beloved great-grandmother of thirteen great-grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. Rita considered her children, grandchildren, step grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren as one family.

Rita’s life was centered around faith in God, devotion to her family, and her many friends, especially the residents of Fuller Village in Milton. Rita was an outstanding cook. Her recipe for Bolognese sauce was almost as sought after as the sauce itself. She regularly delivered her sauce and baked goods to family, friends, and even to her doctors. Rita’s mission in life was to care for others and to pray for those who were sick or struggling. She believed that prayer was as efficacious as any medicine. Rita had an exceptional mind; she never forgot a birthday or anniversary, she was an avid reader, she was informed about local, national and world affairs, and she had a special interest in the frontiers of biomedical science. Rita supported many charities including the Martin P. Solomon Medical Education Scholars at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Boys Town of Nebraska.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 29 Saint Mary’s Road, Milton, Monday October 24 at 10:00 AM. Family and friends invited. The burial will be private.
