Obituary for Rina Wint

On August 10th 1935, Rina Wint was born on the beautiful island of Barbados, West Indies, which she always lovingly referred to as “Home”. She was the 7th of twelve children born to Gertrude (King) Bynoe and Arlington Bynoe. Surrounded by family and friends, Rina spent her formative years in the Silver Sands neighborhood in the parish of Christ Church. There, she attended St. Christopher’s Girls School.

As a young adult, Rina decided to train as a nurse and left Barbados to attend nursing school in the neighboring island of Trinidad. Like many of her generation, she traveled further afield and immigrated to England in the late 1950’s. There, she met Alfonso Hamblin whom she later married in 1964. During Alfonso’s service in the Royal Air Force, Rina had the opportunity to reside in Singapore and Hong Kong. She would share stories of her adventures abroad and the lessons she had learned. The couple returned to England at the end of the 1960’s and started a family.

A devoted mother to her two girls, Maria and Lisa, Rina worked hard in the health care profession to ensure that they had every advantage that life had to offer. In 1990, she left her adopted home of England to start a new life, and joined family based in the United States. She and the girls settled in Cambridge, MA. They later moved to the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, MA, where she remained until her death.

Although quiet in nature, Rina was quick to laugh, share a joke and see the humor in most situations. After her lifelong career as a nurse, she retired in 2000 and enjoyed accommodating family members and friends who traveled to the U.S. She would host elaborate dinners and offered numerous cups of tea. She enjoyed buying and making clothes. Always impeccably dressed, she believed in making the most of her appearance. Rina was also an avid gardener and was often seen pruning her roses and taking great pride in making her plants grow. But most of all, she enjoyed traveling back home to Barbados to be with family and friends and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

In the early hours of April 28, 2023, Rina peacefully departed this earth with her daughters by her side. She is predeceased by her second husband, Lionel Wint, and brothers Willie King, Anderson Bynoe and Edwin Bynoe; and sisters Una Worrell, Enid Harris, Geneta Vaughan, Sylvia Jones and Marian Stoute. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Maria Hamblin (James) of Dorchester, MA and Lisa Hamblin (David) of Dorchester, MA; brother, James Bynoe (Carmeta) of London, England; sister Norma Mansary of Barbados; grandchildren, Nadine and Edwin Vincent of Dorchester, MA; the Bynoe, Hamblin, Worrell, King, Harris, Vincent and Jones families; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
