Obituary for Polina P. Blackwell

Celebrating the life of Polina P. Blackwell (Guerero) – also known as Polly and Yayitt.

Our precious mother Polina Blackwell transitioned on Thursday, July 20th, 2023. Polina, was born 95 years ago on June 29th, 1928 in Marac, Trinidad WI. She was the daughter of Edward and Victoria Guerero (deceased). She was the wife of Joshua Blackwell (deceased). Together they had 9 children: Joseph Blackwell, Mona Gentle, Marina Forde, Octavia Skerritt, Elfreda Blackwell Buffong, Learie Blackwell, Victoria Blackwell, Janice Obasiolu, and Gillian Rivers. Mother-in-law of Velma Blackwell, Lester Gentle, James Skerritt, Joseph Buffong, Marylyn Blackwell, Charles Obasiolu and Carl Rivers. She was the grandmother of 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren. Polina was the eldest of 8 children: Dowan (deceased) Vena(deceased), Lita(deceased), Lima(deceased), Mass (deceased), Kay, whom she raised as her daughter, and Rudolph (deceased). She was the aunt of a host of nieces and nephews as well as adopted nieces and nephews. Friend of Ellen Allen, known to the family as Mammie Ellen, and many other family and friends, numerous to mention.

Polina was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Trinidad as well as Boston. To her there were no strangers just friends she had not met yet. She was a devoted Christian, raised Catholic, later baptized in Mount Herman Baptist church in Trinidad and after moving to Boston, MA became a member of Twelfth Baptist Church. Polina and Joshua Blackwell instilled the love for the Lord in their children at an early age. They embodied the Bible verse, β€œAs for me and my house, we shall worship the Lord.” She prayed constantly for her children, calling each child’s name out to God. She was a prayer warrior calling on God to protect her entire family, loved ones and all in need. She had a big influence on raising her grandchildren

Visitation will be held at Twelfth Baptist Church, 160 Warren Street, ROXBURY on Wednesday, July 26th from 10-11AM. Funeral Service to begin at 11AM. Interment at Fairview Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.
