Obituary for Phung Thi Vy

Phung Thi Vy, 78, of Milton, MA passed away unexpectedly but in peace on August 6th, 2022. She was born on September 3rd, 1943 in Hanoi, Vietnam to her late father Phung Van Than and late mother Pham Thi Vi. In 1954, she migrated from the North to South Vietnam, Saigon and worked as a typist for an American administration that supported the government of the Republic of South Vietnam. During that time, she met her husband Hiep, a dashingly handsome helicopter pilot, who just came back from his training in Texas. In 1967, they got married and started a family. After the fall of Saigon, Vy and her family immigrated to Massachusetts permanently in 1992.

Vy was remembered by all family members and friends as one of the most gentle hearted, friendly with kindred spirits, amiable and funny women they had ever met or gotten to know. Her sacrifices to make ends meet during and after the Vietnam war, to provide for her family were unmeasurable. She left her mother tongue, her culture, her country behind so that her children and generations after could have a better life, an American dream that was so far reached at the time. With tenacity, courage, endurance and self-sacrifice, Vy was able to achieve her wish with poise and grace. Her children and grandchildren had become a symbol of that American success, new generations of college educated and even first generation of doctor. But with all and everything, she remained as a beautiful person inside out with the love of cooking for her family and anything with simplicity.

Vy left behind her beloved husband Hiep of fifty- five years in marriage; four daughters and their husbands, Huong Kristine and Chien, Trang Anna and Chien, Hong Roselyn and Khoi, Hoang Cassandra and Tuan; ten grandchildren, Felicia, Simon, Vinson, Calvin, Chianna, Katherine, Kevin, Regina, Tiffany, and Athena; and her great aunt Tai and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first born son, Truong and her older brother Phung Van Lan.

Please join the Nguyen family in celebrating Vy’s life during visiting hours on Saturday, August 13th, 2022 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., East Milton Square.
