Obituary for Philip H. Mulcahy

Philip H. Mulcahy, of Milton, formerly of Dorchester, October 6, 2024.

Beloved husband of Dianne M. (Todd). Loving father of Ryan and his wife Regan of Milton, John and his wife Evelyn of Braintree and the late Michael S. Mulcahy. Grandfather of Colin, Mary, Bettina, James, Michaela and Marguerite. Brother of Kevin Mulcahy, Ellen Porter, Ann Marie McIntyre and the late Stephen F. Mulcahy.

Phil was a Yankees fan and if you didn't like it, he didn't care. Otherwise, he rooted for the underdog. His favorite beach was in Savin Hill. His tomatoes probably weren't the best in Milton, but he grew more than all other Milton residents combined. He liked cold beer, summer afternoons, Cunningham Park right around dusk. He liked playing catch. He liked animals, especially dogs and horses. He couldn't find his teeth. He binged black and white reruns because they reminded him of being young. He liked "Seinfeld," "Cheers," and "The Honeymooners," because they all made him laugh. He wouldn't turn down a steak, but a peanut butter sandwich was fine -- as long as it was Skippy. He wished Montville never stopped writing for the Globe. If Roy Orbison came on the radio, he sat down and listened. He knew whodunit before anyone else in the room, and if the baseball hall of fame honored knowledge of the game, he'd be in it.

He stayed close to his brothers and sisters. He took pride in being a good friend. He loved his wife and boys and made sure they knew it -- he said the words. We loved him and we're going to miss him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton, Thursday October 10 at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Wednesday 4-8 PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Diane, the "doctor"as we referred to him at work was such a special man. Full of wisdom and humor. Also he was one of the best read men I had ever known . So intelligent. I will miss his wit and his love for life. Jean and I are very sad to hear about his passing. He was definitely one of the good ones. He will be missed.

Dianne and family: I am so sad for you all. Philip was a wonderful guy and brings to mind fun times when we were all young. It is only five months since we lost our Benny so I can and do feel your pain. Condolences and love from my family to yours. Betty Lou

Though I didn't know Phil - except I recognized his picture right away - I could tell from what was written that he was a good family man. I bet Phil enjoyed a healthy conversation and the other person in the conversation enjoyed it, too. My sympathy goes out to his family....

Phil was a boyhood friend growing up in Savin Hill. He was funny and fun loving who cherished his friends and loved his sports especially his damn Yankees. Even after he met the love of his life Dianne he continued to be the "glue " that kept the "gang " intact. Mul was our Chairman of the Board. Go Bless Dianne and the boys for their loving care of their husband and Dad. Rest in Peace, my friend, with your son Michael. Ginna & Mike Croke

Being a grandfather is the best job a man can aspire to. It was an honor sharing those duties with you for so many years. Rest in peace Papa. John Mahony
