Obituary for Paul F. McDonough

Paul F. McDonough 63, of Rhode Island, died unexpectedly but peacefully on February 1, 2024 at his home. He had been battling a brief illness recently. Paul was a beloved son, brother and friend. Paul was unfailingly kind and an incredible friend to many.

He was born in Dorchester and raised in Milton, the oldest of six children. He was a graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School. After high school he followed his father's path and became a licensed engineer. Paul's work ethic was unparalleled. He was an Engineer/Steam Operator for over 30 years for Clark-Cutler McDermott in Franklin MA.

Throughout his life he was passionate about music, animals, and an avid outdoors man. In most recent years he was able to enjoy retirement and found his greatest pleasure living on a farm. His time was spent with his many friends, pet cats, fishing, gardening, and working on his blueberry patch. He was happiest when doing anything outdoors. Family vacations on the ocean or a lake provided cherished time together. He was in his element with campfires and taking his nephews and nieces fishing on his boat. Paul was also a member of the rock band Exit 17 playing keyboard. Paul was a stoic, loving, and proud Irishman. He would do anything for anybody, especially family and his group of friends. We will miss him dearly.

Paul was predeceased by his father Paul L. McDonough. He is survived by his mother Mary McDonough, loving partner Lynne Kulsch, siblings Janice (Marianne) McDonough, Karen (Alan) McGrath, Joe (Kellie) McDonough, Brian (Shauna) McDonough, Kristen (Mike) Phinney.

    Lovingly remembering Paul-I have a very special memory. About a million years ago, when we lived in Dorchester, Aunt Mary would bring Paul, and little Karen and Janice over to our house on Shepton St. She would always step in when needed, as my mother was often helping her sick parents, and having lots of babies, and such. Paul, my brother Kevin, and I made up games, and decided we were a secret club. We had a secret question and a secret answer so we would know we were really in our club. I can't put the secret question and answer online because it's a secret. I saw Paul in March and greeted him with the secret question, and after decades, he called out the secret answer.     My condolences to the entire family. The world lost a gentle soul. we met when i was 16 we have so many memories & life experiences . We had holidays, concerts, moving out for the first to Franklin, the quarries, our great group of fiends. When we were with Leo and got pulled over for mistaken identity for a store robbery we DID NOT commit,We laughed about that for years, My daughter's have enjoyed your company. Our little concert you and Duke put on at my house, my Sara got to enjoy lynard skynard with us I'll Miss you forever my friend. Rest easy with family & friends who have preceeded you. Sue Long
