Obituary for Patricia T. (Doyle) Flanagan
Patricia T. Flanagan of Braintree, formerly of Sagamore Beach passed away at the age of 89 on
February 23, 2024. She leaves behind her loving children, Bill Flanagan and his wife Abby, Ellen Stanton and her husband Paul, Sue Ferrera and her husband Jim, Michael Flanagan and his wife Maureen and Moe McCabe and her husband Bob. She is survived by her brother Jack Doyle, and eleven grandchildren, Gordy and Stephen Stanton, Alfred, Joseph, James and Colin Ferrera, Thomas Flanagan, Elizabeth, Ellie, James and William McCabe. Her great grandchildren Jackson Ferrera and Conall Stanton, as well as several loving nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas Flanagan, as well as her parents William and Marie Doyle, and seven siblings (Anne Doyle, James Doyle, Margaret Wheelen, Mary Doyle,William Doyle, Paul Doyle and Richard Doyle).
Pat grew up in Newton in a large, Irish Catholic family. She attended Sacred Heart grammar school, Holy Cross Academy and Cardinal Cushing College. She met her future husband and soul mate in grammar school and they later married in 1956. After Tom’s graduation from Boston College, Tom served in the US Army in Staten Island, where their children Bill and Ellen were born. After his Military Service, the family moved to Dearborn, Michigan where he began
his career with Ford Motor Company, and where their children Sue, Mike and Moe were born. Tragically, Tom passed away in 1968. Patricia and her children moved back to Boston in 1973.
Pat first worked for the Boston Red Sox in the 1950’s before she was married. She took a break while living out of the state. Once back in Boston, she returned to the Red Sox as the manager of the 600 Club. She remained there until she retired.
Pat’s greatest joy, however, was when her Sagamore Beach home was filled with family and friends. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed sharing her passion for cooking with all. Her attitude was always “the more the merrier”. She loved having her siblings as well as her nieces and nephews for July 4th celebrations and outings at the beach. Pat was a most loyal friend to many, highlighted by a tightknit group from the Boston College Class of “57. No mention of Sagamore beach would be complete without mentioning how important Paul and Barbara Sullivan and their children were in her life, as well as her Sagamore Beach “partner in crime”, Sheila Roche.
She was affectionately known as Aunt Pat to many. She cared deeply for her siblings and the special relationships that she had with all of her nieces and nephews. She also had a very deep faith in God. Over the years, we all came to know that we played second fiddle to her dogs and cats that she tirelessly cared for until her passing.
The family is grateful to the staff at Sunrise of Braintree for their care over the years. We take
comfort in the knowledge that she is reunited with her loving husband Tom.
