Obituary for Naomi Raines

Naomi Raines was born January 9, 1945, in Davidson County, N.C. to the late Lewis F. Saunders Sr. and Addie Blondernia Catherine Harris-Saunders.

Born in Lexington, N. C., her childhood was fulfilled with loving parents, memorable tales of siblings’ banter, Sunday’s prayer and the renaissance of Family Union.

She excelled in basketball and track while attending and graduating from Dunbar High in Lexington. She declared to attend Jackson Business School in Jacksonville, Fl. After graduating, she moved to New Rochelle, NY where she married Bobbie Raines and relocated to Boston, MA.. There after, employed 30 years with and retired in 2006 from The Amtrak Corp.

On Monday, August 1, 2022, Naomi peacefully transitioned from our beloved hearts into God’s beloved hands. She leaves behind, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. The late Louis F. Saunders Jr., William T. Saunders, Robert Lee Saunders, Mollie S. Crooks and Georgia Saunders-Littlejohn.

Naomi was the beloved wife of the late Bobbie Raines. Devoted mother of Joseph L. Raines of Abington, MA. and Bryant Raines of Hyde Park, MA. and the late April M. Raines(Daughter). Also survived by 7 grandchildren. Jalyn C. Raines of Boston, Amani N. Dottin-Raines of Abington, Jordan A. Bryant of Boston, Kiera A. Sandefur of Hyde Park, Keyona N. Raines of Hyde Park, Peyton K. Cook of Hyde Park and Madison P. Raines of Mattapan.

Visiting Hours: Thursday August 11, 2022 at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, 1-2 pm. Funeral Service at 2 o’clock. Interment Private.

    It was my great privilege to have worked with Naomi at South Bay yard and at Southampton St yard. Naomi was the definition of class. Naomi always led by example, not words. I'm sorry that I've just found out about your passing. You will be missed.
