Obituary for Montreuil Chrispin
Montreuil Chrispin passed away Monday, July 31, 2023.
Montreuil was born in Port-au-Prince on September 24, 1939 to St. Surin Chrispin and Euphosia Fortune. As a child his primary residence was with his father whom he loved dearly and never ceased to talk about until his final days. He was also raised by some aunts and uncles whose influence ultimately contributed to the man he came to be. Montreuil often spoke of his mother and the love and gratitude he owed her.
Montreuil attended school until his late teens and ultimately left school to work alongside his father doing masonry and carpentry work.. Later he worked at a car dealer as a mechanic and ultimately landed a visa to come to the United States as a welder after taking a test and proving his skills.
During the Summer of 1969, Montreuil left Haiti and emigrated to the United States in search of better opportunities to improve his life and those of his family members he had left behind. A few months after arriving in the U.S. Montreuil learned of the passing of his father. This left an indelible mark on his spirit as he often talked about how his father passed before he could be rewarded for all he had done for him.
Montreuil worked hard taking advantage of every single opportunity he was afforded knowing the limited options in his own country. At times he worked three jobs to sustain himself and support his family members and the children he had left behind. Ultimately, his efforts helped bring all his siblings and children to the U.S. Montreuil loved to help people and assisted numerous people who had come here from Haiti to become independent and self-sufficient. His passion for education, hard work, integrity and perseverance were hallmarks of his life that he impressed on his children and all that he encountered.
Montreuil, despite being what some perceived as serious, was quite the jokester. He commented on some of the basic nuances of life, people and circumstances in ways that inevitably made others laugh. He will forever be in our hearts.
He is survived by Pascale Chrispin-Paul and her husband Wensly Paul, Ronald Chrispin and his wife, Sarah Chrispin, Eddy Chrispin and Marthine Chrispin, his grandchildren: Peter Chrispin, Jordan Chrispin, Yahzmeen Paul, Keon Ingram, Malcolm Chrispin, Alissa Paul, and Miguel Chrispin and great grandchild, Jahshua Hamilton. He is survived by siblings: Mariette Chrispin, Pierre Chrispin, Antoinette Chrispin, Solange Depestre, Hector Chrispin, Suzette Chrispin, Kesnel Chrispin, Claudette Chrispin, Elda Chrispin, Ronald Chridpin and Elvyre Chrispin. In addition to the above, he leaves to grieve him numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
