Obituary for Melvin Bean Sr.

Melvin Bean Sr. was born to the late Mattie Lou Bean and Ruben Bean on June 6, 1936 in Troy Alabama. He departed from us and gained his heavenly wings on July 26th, 2022.

On September 29th 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama he married the love of his life Mary D. Payne. Shortly after the wedding the newlyweds soon began creating their family. In 1963 with 5 children and one on the way The Bean family left Birmingham and landed in Boston, MA.

Melvin was a strong, loving, caring, and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend too many. He could never say enough about his love for “Mary & The 8”. Sharp suits for church on Sunday, riding clean in his Lincoln. Always being the one to rely on, if you needed him he would be there. If you didn’t want to ask him, he would still be there. The jokester of the family giving out pinches when your not looking and would then say, “oh that must have been an ant”.

Melvin came upon a street named Maryknoll in Mattapan, he knew this was going to be the street where he purchased a home for his family, as it was the same name of his wife Mary. Over these years Maryknoll Street has been known as home to many of us. The home where Mary & Melvin Bean Sr. continued to nurture their family, host Sunday dinners & barbecues, raise grandchildren, and love each other until his last day.

Preceded in death by his parents Mattie Lou Bean & Ruben Bean, son Dwight E. Bean, daughter Mattie R. Bean, daughter in law Sandra Scott, brothers John Bean Jr., Willie Patterson (Papa Bear), sister Eva Lou Stinson, brothers in law, Charles Payne & Raymond Payne. Mr. Bean is survived by his beloved wife Mary Bean, children Sherry Bean, Raymond Davis, Melvin bean Jr., Raymond Bean, Keith Bean, Pamelia Bean Young, Michael Bean, daughter in law; Gail Jackson, son in law; Anthony Young, sister-in-law Jackie Payne. With all love and respect to the abundant hosts of”the grands’: “the great grands’: “the great great grands, nieces, nephews cousins & friends.
