Obituary for Maurice Bruce
Maurice Bruce died November 10, 2024, at his residence in Boston. Father of Chenelle Bruce and Dione Bruce both of Boston.
Maurice Bruce, affectionately known as "Uncle Morris," graced this earthly realm with his presence on September 5, 1944, in Alberttown, Georgetown, Guyana. From a tender age of four, following the passing of his father, Maurice's life was lovingly shaped by his dedicated aunt, the late Ruby Arthur, in the vibrant neighborhood of David Street, Kitty, Georgetown.
A prodigious talent in track and field as a youngster, Maurice's athletic prowess was a source of immense pride for his family, his triumphs celebrated with a collection of medals and trophies that marked his early achievement. At sixteen, Maurice pursued technical training at Port Mourant Technical Training School, Corentyne, Berbice, forging a resilient path that would see him employ his skills at the Demerara Bauxite Company in Linden as a Technical Machine Operator.
In pursuit of greater opportunities, Maurice migrated to the United States, joining his beloved mother, Kate Porter. There, he found fulfilling work with Xerox Printing Company and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, eventually retiring after a distinguished career. His passion for athletics endured, with Maurice participating in the esteemed Boston Marathon, and nourishing his fervent love for cricket.
Maurice's life was steeped in a devotion to family and community. He had a gift for upliftment, sharing wisdom and encouragement freely, especially with the younger generations enduring life's trials. Accompanied by his daughter, Chenelle, Maurice contributed to the Loaves and Fishes(DC) program, extending warmth and sustenance to those in need.
Blessed with a charismatic and loving nature, Maurice's presence was a beacon of joy; his quick wit and humor enlivened every gathering, where he was invariably the life and soul of the party. Deeply rooted in his Christian faith, Maurice embraced life with abundant love, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts he touched.
Although his mother (Kate Porter), father (Harold Alexander), and brother John Porter have all died, the memories they shared will live on. Maurice's legacy is treasured by his daughters, Chenelle-Alana Bruce and Dione Oslyn Bruce, his son, Andre Hendricks, siblings Joyce Bruce, Patricia Ellison, Robert Bruce, Desmond Porter and Don Porter, grandchildren, Aujhaina Bruce, Danea Lai-Fook, Traynelle White, nieces and nephews, Donna Bruce, Ivlaw Bruce, Lenox Bruce, Linnete Bruce, Mark Bruce, Karen Barker, Loris Stoby, Waveney Stoby, Tracey Porter, Fenelle and Marlon Bruce, Jason Ellison, Denise Stoby, Adrian Stoby, Monica Stoby, Kevin Stoby, and Megan Stoby-Fields.
