Obituary for Maureen T. Kenny

Maureen T. (Faherty) Kenny, of Dorchester, formerly of Moycullen, County Galway, Ireland, died January 17, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Beloved wife of 57 years to the late Peter B. Kenny. Devoted mother of Margie and the late Paul Ryan of Dorchester, Bernadette Kenny and Lori Casinghino of Milton, Robyn Kenny-Londergan of Kingston, Catherine Kenny and the late Brendan McGrath of Braintree, Mary Kenny and Antonio Maycott of Dorchester, Julie Foley of Quincy, and the late Michael Brendan Kenny.

In later years, Peter and Maureen enjoyed dancing at the Irish Social Club in West Roxbury, relaxing at Castle Island, or tooling to the Catskills for weekend vacations with friends. Born in the small village of Killagoola, Moycullen, Maureen was the daughter of Thomas and Catherine (O’Donnell) Faherty. Nestled in age between brothers Micheal and Bartley, Maureen often spent summers with her beloved Uncleen and Aunteen who lived only up the road.

Sister of Tommy Faherty of the United Kingdom and Annie O’Brien of Ireland and the late Bridie, Julie, John, Paddy, Micheal, Bartley, and Peggy. Maureen arrived in America in 1953, to meet sisters Bridie and Julie. Together they forged a new life for the next generation, working and having fun in New York and Boston. She was later joined in Boston by her brother Bartley and sister Peggy and the American branch of the Faherty family blossomed. She leaves behind 32 loving nieces and nephews in America, Ireland, England, and Australia.

Maureen also loved all children, and they her, including neighborhood kids, her children’s school friends, and babies she’d meet in supermarkets or out strolling with a parent along Adams Street. She was often greeted with “Hi Mrs. Kenny!” as she traveled through Lower Mills. She later returned to her work as a nanny for a number of families and loved them as much as her own.

But her greatest legacy were her cherished Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. She was the treasured Gammi of Courtney and Joe Dion, Michael and Kate Londergan, Maggie and Nate Dibble, Julie, Patrick and Sammi Ryan, John Londergan, Liam and Hugh McGrath, Julia McQuaid, and the late Richard B. Londergan. Great Gammie to Peter, Luke, and Maggie Dion, Reis Ryan, Paul and Julie Dibble, and Richard I. Londergan. Maureen also leaves so many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Sincere sympathy on the passing of Aunty Maureen, a very loving person and a wonderful sister-in-law, I have very fond memories of visiting you in Boston over the years. I'll never forget how when Micheal and I would come to your house for lunch during our visits to the States, and you would surprise him with a friend or acquaintance, many years gone from Moycullen and living in Boston sitting at your table, the joy it brought to him was beyond compare. Suaimhneas síoraí dá hanam Aunty Bridie and cousins, Killagoola, Moycullen

Our condolences to all the family. Fond memories and highest respect to the mom of our childhood playmates. The Kenny Children. We always saw Mrs Kenny as our second mom as we played so much together as young children. She was the queen of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and always pinching our cheeks as young children and making us laugh. Thank you for your loving kindness. Mr & Mrs Kenny were always great for a quick conversation while passing by our home on their daily constitutionals. We will always fondly remember seeing Mrs Kenny tending her roses in the front yard and giving a friendly wave. Rest in Blessed Peace, Mike Butts & Family

My memories of our darling Auntie Maureen coming home to Ireland for so many summers are so vivid. She seemed like a movie star to me- her beautiful dresses and shoes and most vividly her gorgeous trench coats. She had the most beautiful hands-just like my own beloved Mom- the widest smile and the twinkliest lively brown eyes. How she loved to dance! I'm so grateful to have been her niece and to have felt her warmth and kindness- the true gentleness of her being. Even at the zenith of her final illness, she was humming along to a tune and full of love. Thank you Mamie for bringing us to visit last September, a treasured memory forever. I pray that the love she shared with her children and grandchildren will bring them some comfort during these sad days. May the light of heaven shine upon your soul Auntie Maureen. You and all our dearly departed loved ones will live in our hearts and memories until we meet again. All my love, Roses. 💖

Gammi, the kindness that poured from your soul was remarkable. The way you never let this unfair world make you hard. The way you made everyone who met you feel so special. The way you kept every situation light with a joke and a wink. You were the most loving and kind soul I've ever known and I'm forever grateful I was your grand daughter. I love you to the moon and back xoxo juju

We will miss you Auntie Maureen So many wonderful memories of Sundays spent with you, you always brought the store bought cupcakes we loved, visits to us at the Cape where you'd dry my toes individually after swimming, and in recent years listening to how well you remembered your Irish. You always had a smile like the one in this photo and a sunny disposition. My Mom said the same as we talked about you today as we do every time we're together. We were very blessed to have you here with us in the States. My Dad always talked about the great days you spent together as children when you went up to Aunteen and Uncleen's to stay with them since they had an empty house and yours was overflowing. I can still hear him calling you "Ma" (maw), short for Maire, his pet name for you. We are sad for ourselves, but happy knowing you are reunited with Uncle Peter, Michael and everyone who has been waiting for you in Heaven. I feel a peaceful joy today knowing you are free of earthly pain or confusion and in the arms of everyone who has been missing you there. Looking forward to the day when we are all reunited. Love you, Kathleen xoxo
