Obituary for Maryse St. Leger
Maryse St. Leger was born April 23rd, 1950 in Port Au Prince, Haiti. She was the daughter of Germaine and Rincher Rimpel. She was one of 8 children. She attended Madam Boisson and studied the culinary arts. Maryse and her long time boyfriend Jean St.Leger were married in May of 1971. Her new husband emigrated with his best friend and brother-in-law Raymond Louis to the US to make a better life for their families. They settled in Boston Massachusetts in 1973. There she pursued a career as a nurse’s aid. She successfully completed her training and went to work in that field until her retirement in 2018.
Maryse is survived by her husband Jean Gabriel St.Leger, their two sons (Steeve MacOrland Spencer St.Leger, Lee Hendrick St.Leger), grandchildren (Tyler Lee Joy Maryse St. Leger and Steeve St.Leger II).

Maryse was very much her father’s child. She was tough and steadfast in her beliefs. The role of mother and wife meant everything to her and she took that on with same passion and determination she handled everything in her life. Though she only had 2 of her own, she cared for 5 children alongside her sister-in-law: Ange Merry Louis. She cooked, cleaned, did laundry, washed dishes, and did all that while maintaining a 40 hr work week at Long Island hospital in Quincy Mass and then BU Medical in Boston. Even in her later years, before/into/after retirement, Maryse did what she considered a mother’s and wifely duties…and that extended to everyone in her family. She spent 6 months attending to her brother Paul, while he battled his own health issues until his death. Even through the pain of sciatica and excruciating back pain she maintained those duties. She worked hard inside and outside of the home to complement her husband’s work ethic and raise the family she loved.
Maryse held many classical values and ethical standards of older generations and sought to raise her children according to the same principles she was taught. Her manner, like her own dad, was that of a tough, no-nonsense person who was willing to throw a punch if you sought to harm or disrespect her family and a tongue that could startle a sailor if you stepped out of line. She earned the title, “the warden” by the kids, while jealously guarding the kitchen table during holiday parties.
Though she was often blunt and sometimes curt, she loved to laugh and to sit at table during her down time to listen to stories told by visiting family and friends as well as sharing some from her childhood. We learned how deeply this tough woman could bleed each time she suffered the loss of a family member. Maryse was passionate about her family - especially her grand kids. Her classical ethic often clashed with the modern views of those closest to her - and as with all passionate and proud people, explosions would ensue, but the love never stopped flowing in either direction.
Maryse died Friday, November 25, 2022, of a blood clot in her lung. She was attempting to recover from the effects of what doctors discovered to be two aneurysms in her brain two weeks earlier. She will remain in our hearts forever!
