Obituary for Mary Virginia (McLaughlin) Fidrocki
Mary Virginia (McLaughlin) Fidrocki passed away in her home, where she was lovingly cared for, at the age of 98 on December 28, 2023.
Nana, as she was known to many, was born on September 19, 1925, in Clinton, MA. She grew up in Lancaster, MA. She graduated from Clinton Hospital School of Nursing and attended Clark University. Nana then worked as a staff nurse at Boston City Hospital, where she met the love of her life, Henry Fidrocki. She went on to work as a nurse manager at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital. During her successful career as a nurse, she and Henry raised their five children in Milton, MA, spending treasured summers in Falmouth, MA.
Nana loved being with her family, especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. She took great pride in everyoneβs accomplishments, always remembering birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations. Nana loved entertaining family and friends at her home; parties at the Fidrocki household were large and frequent. She loved the beach, swimming and collecting sea glass; she loved traveling and dining out. Nana was a voracious reader, reading the daily newspaper and always having a novel close at hand. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and classic game shows. But perhaps her greatest love was for her Boston Red Sox; she could often be found rooting for her beloved team, wearing her Red Sox sweatshirt and cap.
Nana is survived by her children, Virginia Mason of Rochdale, Edward Fidrocki and his wife Debra of Milton, Kathleen Bogner and her husband William of Milton, Elaine Barter and her husband William of Quincy, and William Fidrocki and his wife Dianne of Weymouth. She is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her brother James McLaughlin of Florida. She was predeceased by her husband Henry, her brother John, and her sister Gertrude.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, Saint Elizabeth Church, 350 Reedsdale Road, Milton, Thursday January 4 at 10:00 AM. Family and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Wednesday January 3 from 4-8 PM.
It is our hope that Nana is remembered as a source of inspiration and strength. We miss her terribly already; 98 years were far too few. We know that her love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Nanaβs memory may be made to Tommyβs Place, a Cape Cod non-profit offering vacation experiences for children with pediatric cancer and their families. Tommy's Place Foundation, Inc., 90 Shore Avenue, Quincy, MA 02169.
