Obituary for Mary Patricia Dowling

Mary Patricia “Patsy” (Leary) Dowling passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 10th at 88 years of age.

Patsy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Stephen A. Dowling in 2018 and her brothers Joseph F. Leary and Kevin W. Leary. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth “Betty” Horrigan of Avon, CT. Patsy was also the loving aunt and great aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Patsy grew up in Milton with her three siblings. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in Boston and Newton College. She had a long and joyful career with American Airlines - starting out in ticket sales and finally leading the operations of the Admirals Club at Logan Airport for many years. After her retirement from American Airlines, Patsy began an extended volunteer career highlighted by many years of service to the Museum of Fine Arts. She was also an active volunteer at Milton Hospital and Saint Elizabeth Church.

Patsy lived a life filled with her faith, family, friends, love of travel, and service to others. She attended Mass daily and described her faith as the most important aspect of her life. She lived in Milton and had countless friends throughout the town including many that belonged to Wollaston Golf Club, which she and Steve thoroughly enjoyed. Patsy and Steve travelled extensively and spent twenty winters in their beloved Vero Beach Community. Patsy was an ever present and engaged aunt and great aunt. She attended all her nieces and nephew’s high school and college graduations. There was no recital, game, or play that she would not joyfully witness.

For the final five years of her life, Pat lived at the Brightview Community in Canton. Her family is grateful for the loving care provided by many staff members at Brightview.

Pat was one of the very first people to come in and introduce herself to me when I was Senior Associate Chair at the MFA. She quickly became one of my main sources of advice, wisdom, and support as well as a good friend.

What a wonderful lady, full of energy enthusiasm. In my time at the Museum of Fine Arts she with Steve at her side offered invaluable support, and the warmth of friendship. Malcolm Rogers

Dear Betty, Norah, and Eileen, Please know how sorry I am to know of Pat's passing away. She was, as we say in North Carolina, just the "bestest" friend, and I will never forget the wonderful experiences we shared when I lived in Boston. Perhaps it was the fact that we were born only one day apart in the same year that we enjoyed the same things and had several coincidences in our lives. Of course, Pat gleefully enjoyed introducing me to people as her "older friend". I will miss her so very much and know you all will as well. Kindly convey my deepest sympathy to the rest of your family and take comfort that she is at peace. Love, Marilyn Lewis
