Obituary for Mary Elizabeth McDevitt
Mary Elizabeth McDevitt, age 95, of Dorchester passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025.
Mary was the devoted and beloved daughter of the late Mary (Doherty) McDevitt and John McDevitt and sister of the late Helen (McDevitt) Cahill and the late Sister Susan McDevitt.
Mary loved and was cherished by her large loving family. Aunt of Mary Beth Cahill and Steve Champlin of Washington, DC, Ed and Mary Ann Cahill of Northborough MA, Joseph Cahill of Walpole, MA and Mary Cahill of Foxborough, MA, Michael and Elaine Cahill of Medway MA, Ann and David Castagnetti, of Bethesda, MD and Clare and Paul Serrantino of Cromwell, CT. Loving Great Aunt to Owen Cahill, Meghan and John Pensa, Connor Cahill, Jeff and Julia Cahill, Ryan Cahill and Meghan Kingston Cahill, Molly Cahill Mairead Cahill, John Cahill, Bridget Cahill, Neal Cahill, Andrew Castagnetti, Ben Castagnetti, Alison Serrantino and Jenna Serrantino. Also, great-great Aunt to Jaxson Pensa, Lincoln Pensa and Lily Cahill.
Throughout her life, Mary was loved and supported by her cousins and their children. All were special to her.
Mary graduated from Mission High School, worked for NE Telephone and was a Member of the NE Telephone Pioneers. She volunteered at St. Margaret’s Hospital on Tuesday nights for 40 years and was also an active member and former Secretary of the County Donegal Association of Greater Boston. Mary was a longtime parishioner of St. Peter’s Parish and St Gregory’s Parish both in Dorchester, MA.
Mary resided at Deutsches Aletenhein-The German Center Assisted Living in West Roxbury MA and spent her later years at Elizabeth Seton Residence. Her family would like to thank the Sisters of Charity and the staff at Elizabeth Seton Residence for their care and kindness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 4th at Saint Gregory’s Parish, 2223 Dorchester Ave, Dorchester, MA at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Mount Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4th at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester-Lower Mills from 8:30 am - 9:30 am prior to the Mass.
