Obituary for Marlene A. (Van Volsen) Stout

Marlene Anne (Van Volsen) Stout, 88, of Milton passed away on March 4, 2025.

Born in Inverness, Nova Scotia, Canada, to the late Marcel Van Volsen and Sarah (MacIntyre) Van Volsen. The eldest of four girls, Marlene moved to the Jamaica Plain section of Boston with her family at the age of 16.

Marlene had a very distinguished 34-year career as a Canadian Immigration Program Officer at the Canadian Consulate General in Boston. Throughout her career, Marlene received numerous accolades including a formal commendation from the Government of Canada for her years of dedicated service. After retiring from the Canadian Consulate, Marlene served as an Administrator for Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury.

Marlene was an accomplished pianist achieving the highest awards, even as a youngster. Throughout her life, Marlene treasured playing the piano at home and at family gatherings. A gourmet chef, Marlene loved to host dinner parties. Whether hosting dignitaries at the Canadian Consulate, or friends and family, Marlene’s exquisite meal presentations were to the finest detail.

Marlene was a lover of dogs, big and small. Her beloved Snoopy, Casey and Penny brought her so much joy. She was a kind and loving angel, quick-witted and loved to laugh. The funniest person on Earth was her darling husband, Frank. She was a proud American, always interested and staying informed on current events. She was accomplished in many ways, but her greatest love was her family, especially her precious grandchildren CJ, Mikey, and Olivia.

Beloved wife of the late Frank Joseph Stout. Loving mother of Michael W. Stout and his late wife Jessica of Braintree. Doting grandmother of Celia "CJ" Anderson, Michael Edward Stout, and Olivia Margaret Stout. Sister of Marion MacQuarrie and her late husband Donald, Joyce Fallon and her late husband Jack and the late Jackelene Walton. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, Saint Elizabeth Church, 350 Reedsdale Road, Milton, Wednesday March 12 at 11:30 AM. Family and friends are invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, prior to the mass from 9:30-11:00 AM. Interment Milton Cemetery.
