Obituary for Mark Peters
Mark Bernard Peters affectionately known by his family and close friends as “Markie” was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 22, 1986, to Sylvia Peters. Mark spent his formative years growing up in Dorchester, MA. As a child, he was the typical fun-loving kid who enjoyed playing outside, listening to music, and attending the family events that were always going on. Although he grew up in humble beginnings, there was never a lack of love in our tight knit family. As Mark entered adulthood, he enjoyed living his life privately while spending time taking lots of pictures at family events, traveling to various Caribbean islands and Europe with family and building his large collection of digital music.
In 2005 Mark graduated from West Roxbury High School. Upon graduation, he enrolled for a brief time to Bunker Hill Community College while also working as a counselor at the Home for Little Wanderer’s and the Italian Children’s Home of Boston. There, Mark developed his passion for helping children and families in need and decided to pursue a formal education in Psychology/Sociology. His heart’s desire led him to enroll at UMass Boston where he graduated on June 1, 2012, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Sociology. Mark had a desire to further his education and he successfully completed his Master of Social Work from Boston College in May 2015.
Mark continued to impart his knowledge in the field of Psychology as an Adjunct Professor at Boston College while employed by the Department of Children and Families (DCF). Mark rose through the ranks in his 9 years at DCF into a management role. In his role as a manager, Mark was accountable for working in partnership with families and the community to keep children safe from neglect. Mark’s biggest flex and his personal superpower was the support, help and advocacy that he gave to children and families in the Greater Boston area. There’s an old hymn that goes; “If I can help somebody, as I pass along, If I can cheer somebody, with a word or song, If I can show somebody, how they're traveling wrong, then my living shall not be in vain”. Mark’s living and dying was not in vain. Mark made positive impacts in others’ lives including his own family. He clearly demonstrated the love he had for helping people both on the job and in his personal life. At every family event Mark always took the time to bond with and talk to his nephew and younger cousins. The smaller children would always hang out with him like he was the pied piper. They all looked up to him!
Mark is survived by many relatives and friends that will miss him dearly. Mark is the beloved son of Sylvia Peters of Boston; siblings, Reginald and India Peters, both of Boston, the loving grandson of Lorraine Peters of Boston; and the cherished nephew of his uncles, David Sampson of Ft. Meyers, FL, the late Mark Peters of Boston, Jerome E. Sampson of Brockton; and aunts, Annette A. Hall of Lowell, Meredith Peters of Brockton. Mark also leaves behind nephew, Reginald Lloyd Hines-Gardner of Boston and godson Jaylee Wright. Mark is also survived by a host of great-aunts, great uncles, cousins, and close family friends.
