Maria Bala Sena, affectionately known as Aia, age 90, of Boston, MA passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on March 14, 2024. Born August 20, 1933, in Brava, Cape Verde to Belmiro Bala and Leocadia Barros.

A beautiful soul who would give her last to anyone. She loved to help others and loved to love on people. Her beautiful personality made it easy for her to have so many friends.

Aia enjoyed living life to the fullest. She enjoyed going out to eat, gardening, talking on the phone, traveling, going on beach walks, partying with her family, spending time with her grandchildren, playing the daily lottery and gambling at Foxwoods Casino.

She was a busy lady but always made sure to watch some of her favorite and classic movies Titanic, The Godfather, The Wizard of Oz, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Sound of Music and Selena. Her kitchen was her favorite place to be you always catch her watching her daily stories, the news and Jimmy Swaggart.

Family was important to Aia. She would sit in the yard for hours enjoy watching her great grand kids grow. She looked forward to holidays, cookouts and Sunday dinners with her family. Her legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to have known her. Her kindness, goofiness, sense of humor, integrity, laughter and devotion to her family and friends will be forever cherished.

Aia was preceded in death by her mother Leocadia Barros, father Belmiro Bala, husband Julio Sena, son Belmiro Sena and grandson James Cozzo.

She is survived by her children that she loved so much, Gisela Sena Campisi, Viriato Bala Sena, Sebastian Bala Sena, Maria Sena-DaSilva, Leocadia Sena-Monteiro, Benvinda Bala Sena, Julio Bala Sena, Kevin Bala Sena, Estella Bala Sena, and Maria Madalena Bala Sena. She leaves 29 grandchildren 30 great children and 1 great great grandchild. Many loving sisters, brothers, family and friends who will miss her tremendously.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Saint Gregory Church, 2223 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, MA. Visiting Hours Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street. DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, 4 - 8 pm. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery.
