I was such a fan back in the day. He was an absolute blast to watch pitch! I was lucky enough to be at all the playoff and World Series games in 1975. It was the thrill of a lifetime. Who would have thought all these years later I'd be living on the same street as him. He was a kind, humble, and gentle man. He was beloved in our community and will be deeply missed. My sincere condolences go out to his wife and family. Rest in peace, you dear, sweet soul💔

This was such sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He was a great man who gave generously to charitable organizations, and a great friend. I will miss his warm smile. Rest in peace, El Tiante.

8 years ago we were on vacation in Maine. My 8 year old son asked me who my favorite baseball player of all-time was. Didn't miss a beat; "It's not even close, it's Luis Tiant ". Two exits later we stopped at The Maine Diner for lunch; and Luis was there! We weren't going to interrupt, but when Luis saw my son in a Sox shirt he waved him over and asked my daughter, "Could you please take a picture of me and my friend". When we thanked Luis he smiled and said, "Oh, it's my pleasure"...What a wonderful man & a wonderful family. A life very well-lived...

I loved Luis! I had the honor of meeting him numerous times at different baseball signing shows. Also, I attended the parade the town of Milton had for him in 1975 when they came so, so close to close to winning the WS. He is now with his parents. May he rest in eternal peace. He was truly loved by all. Sending prayers to the family.

A great pitcher and a better man. We are seldom accorded in life the opportunity to meet our childhood heroes as adults, and when we do we are too often disappointed. Not in this case. Luis was as wonderful a friend as he was a hero, and a loving family man and teammate who made everybody smile and laugh. Thank you, Luis, for sharing your amazing journey with me. My heart goes out to Maria, Danny, Isabel, Luis Jr., and the entire Tiant family.

Back in 2002 we held a fund raiser to endow a scholarship at Malden Catholic in my brother Joes name. I'm proud to say is still being given out today in my brother's name. I wrote countless letters as an 18 year old asking for any help, items etc. That night in Malden two men showed up unannounced with no booking fee or a hand out. They brought items such as cigars, baseballs, jerseys. Stayed all night taking g countless photos and singing everything from baseballs to napkins. One was the great Luis Tiant and the other was manager Joe Morgan. When Luis asked to see "the kid that wrote the letter" he cried with me and said my brother's story made him cry and he could t help but come. I told him seeing him walk through that door with Joe Morgan made me smile. Ever since then I've seen Luis out and about and if possible I'd always seek him out and remind him of that night and I would each time remind him how much happiness he brought that night and how he'd always be family to us! Many years later after one of those "run ins" with Luis I got a box of cigars in the mail. He was a class act and if I could effect one person in my life the way he effected me than I would have lived a solid life. He was a great pitcher and by the baseball standard and stats should be in the hall of fame, but he was an even better person. Rest in peace my friend -CM

Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your life. Your were not only a great coach but a mentor and friend. I would not be where I am today if it weren't for you. You were not only a legend on the field but off the field as well. You will surely be missed. My heart goes out to you and the Tiante Family....
